When does The Mandalorian Season 3 start on Disney+? Will baby Yoda return? And what does the plot revolve around? We get to the bottom of the most important questions about the Star Wars series.
Although many fans were skeptical before the launch of the first Star Wars original series, The Mandalorian turned out to be a huge success for Disney+. Season 1 delighted with baby Yoda, Season 2 with appearances by familiar characters from the galaxy far, far away. Now the question is: How does the story continue in the 3rd season?
We have compiled all the important information known so far about the new The Mandalorian episodes. In addition, we speculate in which direction the Star Wars series could develop in the future. Above all, we are concerned about one question: Will we see Baby Yoda united with Din Djarin once again?
When will The Mandalorian season 3 start on Disney+?
There is no official start date yet. However, we know that filming began in September 2021 and ended in March 2022. Accordingly, it would be possible that the 3rd season of The Mandalorian arrives on Disney+ before the end of the year. Currently, the trend is towards the end of 2022 or early 2023. A start in the summer, as has already been rumored, is very unlikely.

The first footage of The Mandalorian season 3 was revealed at the Star Wars Celebration 2022. Here’s a tease trailer.
Will we see Baby Yoda again in The Mandalorian Season 3?
After Baby Yoda aka Grogu split from Din Djarin in a very emotional scene at the end of season 2 of The Mandalorian, it was unclear whether we would see the little rascal again. Over a year later, we know more: The spin-off series The Book of Boba Fett featured the reunion of Din and Grogu.
At the end of the Boba Fett finale, the two fly through space together in a modified Naboo starfighter. Din sits in the cockpit and Grogu enjoys the view from the dome, which was installed by Peli Motto where an astromech droid would usually take its place. Then the two disappear into the stars.
What is the plot of The Mandalorian season 3?

Even aside from cute baby Yoda scenes, The Mandalorian season 3 should have a few to offer. After all, the previous round ended with an unresolved conflict: Din Djarin is now in possession of the coveted darksaber and could thus lay claim to the throne of Mandalore.
The problem: Bo-Katan Kryze is also after the powerful weapon. When Din wants to hand it over to her, she refuses. According to tradition, the darksaber must be won in battle. It is exciting that the rebellious Bo-Katan, of all people, clings so tightly to a tradition, although it is otherwise Din who insists on it.
Most recently, the two stormed Moff Gideon’s ship as allies. In season 3 of The Mandalorian, they could clash as antagonists: inside. At this point, the series could reinvent itself as a Mandalorian epic and add another tragic story to the Star Wars universe.
Who is in the cast of The Mandalorian season 3?
An official cast list has not been confirmed yet. However, it is very likely that the following three names will definitely be back:
- Pedro Pascal as Din Djarin
- Katee Sackhoff as Bo-Katan Kryze
- Giancarlo Esposito as Moff Gideon
In addition, the return of Carl Weathers as Greef Karga and other familiar faces from the Mando family bids well. Temuera Morrison, who embodies Boba Fett, is among them, as is Fennec Shand actress Ming-Na Wen. After the post-credit scene of The Book of Boba Fett, we can also assume that Timothy Olyphant is back on the scene as Cobb Vanth.
Not returning will be Gina Carano as Cara Dune, who is no longer employed by Lucasfilm/Disney after a series of questionable social media posts. We’ve already weighed in on how Carano’s departure will affect The Mandalorian.
How does The Mandalorian Season 3 fit in with other Star Wars series?

It’s no secret that Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni are expanding their Star Wars corner after the success of The Mandalorian. After the Boba Fett spin-off, Ahsoka already announces its second spin-off series. A third, Rangers of the New Republic, has been announced but is not currently in development.
The individual series are supposed to be closely linked, as The Book of Boba Fett has already impressively proven. In between, the series felt more like a third season of Mando. Following the model of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the story around Mando, Boba and Ahsoka could work towards a major crossover event.
