Connection to Star Wars 9 and a new enemy in The Mandalorian season 3

Don't miss

The teaser trailer for the third season of “The Mandalorian” (start: 2023 on Disney+) has finally been published online and already provides all kinds of clues about the plot of the new episodes. We took a closer look and found a connection to Star Wars 9 and a new enemy all this is in the trailer of The Mandalorian Season 3.

We already saw it in May 2022 at the Star Wars Celebration, but as part of Disney’s D23 trade show, the first preview of the third season of “The Mandalorian” has finally landed officially on the web. So it’s high time for The Monster Hype, so we took take a closer look at the clips.

After the spin-off “The Book of Boba Fett” brought Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and his cuddly protégé Grogu together again and hinted at what new adventure lies ahead for the two, the trailer for the “Mandalorian” sequel now provides an exciting preview. As we know, since he has taken off his helmet, Mando must now wash himself clean in the Living Waters under the mines of Mandalore in order to be accepted back by his clan.

Conflict With Bo-Katan Kryze

Mandalore, once destroyed by the Empire, is now also seen in the trailer. This is probably also where the scenes are set, with Mandalorian Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff) seated on a throne. She wants to rebuild her world and help it achieve new greatness. But to actually become the leader, she would need the Darksaber – which, however, must be won in battle.

And since the legendary blade is currently in Din Djarin’s possession, a tangible conflict is finally brewing between him and Bo-Katan. For although they have already fought side by side several times, Bo-Katan is not exactly enthusiastic about Mando’s radical interpretation of the Mandalorian code and is probably willing to do many things to achieve her goal.

Meanwhile, there’s a more joyful reunion with Mando’s old client and friend Greef Karga (Carl Weathers), who has apparently managed to make his once-desolate world of Navarro thrive – even if it’s hinted in the trailer that he has a pirate problem to contend with. In his video, We speculate whether there could also be a return of Hondo, the space buccaneer known from the “Star Wars” animated series, in this context.

Arc To Star Wars 9

What’s most exciting, however, is that the third season of “The Mandalorian” draws an arc to “Star Wars 9: The Rise of Skywalker,” which takes place a few years later. On the one hand, we get to see the droid smith Babu Frik, who will later also work on C-3PO. This could also mean that Din Djarin and Grogu make a detour to the planet Kijimi, where Babu Frik is at home at least in “Star Wars 9”. And who knows: maybe they’ll meet smuggler Zorii Bliss (Keri Russell) there, which could tell us more about her relationship with ace pilot Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac).

Possibly this is not the only connection to “Star Wars 9”, which is further condensed in “The Mandalorian”. The trailer also briefly shows the Imperial Dr. Pershing (Omid Abtahi), who is still after Grogu’s blood to continue his experiments with Force-sensitive clones. And in this context, we might again get an explanation for the emergence of “Star Wars 7” and “Star Wars 8” villain Snoke (Andy Serkis) and the return of the Emperor (Ian McDiarmid) in “Star Wars 9.”

We’ll know more when the adventures of Din Djarin, Grogu and Co. finally continue: The third “Mandalorian” season will start in spring 2023 on Disney+, but there is no exact date yet.
