Twin Engine officially announced the Ancient Magus’ Bride Season 2 on September 5, 2022, via a special live stream event. A beautiful teaser trailer and a key visual were also revealed, showing us some glimpses of Chise and Elias’ romantic adventures in the new season.
The Ancient Magus’ Bride Season 2 Studio, Cast, and Characters
The second season will be animated by Studio Kafka, which also produced the OAD series The Ancient Magus’ Bride: The Boy from the West and the Knight of the Blue Storm. The OAD series is a prequel to the main story that explores Elias’ past and his relationship with Lindel.
The staff and cast of Season 2 will be a mix of returning members from Season 1 by WIT Studio and new additions from Studio Kafka. Kazuaki Terasawa will direct Season 2, while Aya Takaha, Yoko Yonaiyama and Chiaki Nishinaka will write the scripts. Kohei Tokuoka will be the chief animation director, Hirotaka Kato will design the characters, and Junichi Matsumoto will compose the music.
Atsumi Tanezaki and Ryota Takeuchi will reprise their Chise Hatori and Elias Ainsworth roles, respectively. Kōki Uchiyama will join them as Ruth, Aya Endo as Silky, Satoshi Hino as Mikhail Renfred, Mutsumi Tamura as Alice Swayne, Minami Tsuda as Lucy Webster, Maki Kawase as Philomela Sergeant, Seiichiro Yamashita as Rian Scrimgeour, Daiki Kobayashi as Zoe Ivy, Reina Ueda as Veronica Rickenbacker, and Kotaro Nishiyama as Isaac Farrar.
The second season will adapt the Gakuin (Academy) arc of the manga by Kore Yamazaki. This arc follows Chise and Elias as they enroll in a college for alchemists hidden under the British Library. There they meet new friends
and foes who will challenge their bond and test their magic skills.
The Ancient Magus’ Bride Season 2 Release Date
The exact release date for Season 2 has been confirmed, it is expected to premiere on April 6th, 2023. We will update this article with more information once it becomes available.
Season 2 will air on Tokyo MX and BS11, as well as other Japanese TV stations. It will also stream on Prime and Hikari TV the same day.
For international fans, Crunchyroll will stream Season 2 as new episodes are released in Japan on Amazon Prime Video Japan. Crunchyroll has already released an English-subtitled version of the teaser trailer for Season 2.

The Ancient Magus’ Bride is a dark fantasy manga series by Kore Yamazaki that has been serialized in Mag Garden’s Monthly Comic Garden since 2013. The manga follows the story of Chise Hatori, a young girl who becomes the apprentice and bride of Elias Ainsworth, a mysterious magus with an animal skull head.
Seven Seas Entertainment for North American release since 2014 has licensed the manga. The manga has also inspired several anime adaptations by different studios. The first one was a three-part OVA series titled The Ancient Magus’ Bride: Those Awaiting a Star, which was produced by Wit Studio and focused on Chise’s past encounter with a magical library in a forest. The OVA series was screened in theaters from 2016 to 2017.
The second one was a 24-episode TV series, also produced by Wit Studio, which covered the main events of the manga from Chise’s auction to her confrontation with Cartaphilus. The TV series aired from October 2017 to March 2018.
The third one was another three-part OVA series titled The Ancient Magus’ Bride: The Boy From the West and the Knight of the Mountain Haze, which was produced by Studio Kafka, a new studio established for this project. The OVA series was released on DVD along with the manga volumes from September 2021 to September 2022.
The fourth one was announced as the “second part” of Studio Kafka’s project and revealed to be a second TV series season. The second season is set to premiere in April 6th, 2023 and will continue Chise’s journey as a magus’ bride.
