Will we ever get to see Plunderer Season 2 on our screens? What are the chances of receiving a sequel?
Plunderer is one of the many anime that fall under the action and fantasy genre, with a touch of ecchi. The story of the anime series is set in a world ruled by numbers, you gain and lose points for specific things you do. Once the number reached zero, you’ll be dragged into the abyss, a place that is said to be worse than death.
Plunderer began life as a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Suu Minazuki, the author that can also be seen in other anime projects such as Heaven’s Lost Property. The manga series began its serialization in Kadokawa Shoten’s Monthly Shounen Ace magazine on December 26, 2014. Luckily, fans outside Japan could already enjoy the manga series as the English version has been published by Yen Press since March 19, 2019.
Plunderer Season 2 Renewal Status
The anime adaptation of the manga series was announced by Monthly Shounen Ace on February 18, 2018. It was produced by GEEK TOYS. You probably haven’t heard of the same before, considering that the studio is new and has only released a few anime titles at the time of writing. Their other anime project that comes close to Plunderer in terms of popularity is Hensuki: Are you willing to fall in love with a pervert, as long as she’s a cutie?
The anime series Plunderer premiered on January 9, 2020, and ran for twenty-four episodes before concluding on June 25 of the same year. After the first season has finished, many fans are craving a sequel as it ends with a cliffhanger. As the fans want to see the continuation, this particular question arises: What is the renewal status of Plunderer? Has the production team said anything regarding Plunderer Season 2?
Unfortunately, as of now, we haven’t received any official news or announcements from the studio or, the production team. So, the whereabouts of Plunderer Season 2 still remain a mystery until now.
Plunderer Season 2: Will it be feasible?
First of all, keep in mind that the anime series Plunderer has a score of 6.55 in MyAnimeList, which can be considered bad compared to the others. The anime was not well received by many of the audience. The main reason is that some of the fans claimed that the pacing is a mess compared to the source. The animation was also poorly executed, unfortunately. The adaptation butchered and ruined most of the source. Not to mention, the Blu-ray disk sales flopped really poorly. Luckily, the manga sales have almost reached 2 million sales thanks to the anime, but sadly it won’t guarantee a season renewal due to the amount of hate that the first season has received.
Despite the poor quality of the adaptation, the way that the first season ended in the last episode could lead to a season renewal, as it has left us off with a cliffhanger. Also, the amount of source material is more than enough to go for another run. The first season has only covered around 35-37 out of 83 chapters from the manga series. However, the manga series has already come to an end on April 2022, meaning that the chances of Plunderer Season 2 should plummet by a large margin.
In the end, considering those points above, Plunderer Season 2 might not be possible. However, seeing that recently many anime that has low chances of a renewal gets a new sequel, Plunderer Season 2 should not be completely impossible. We will have to wait for a miracle to come, and once it arrives, we will surely update this article to let you guys know.
Plunderer Action
Alcia is a world governed by “Count”: numbers engraved on a person’s body, representing any number related to their life. These Counts determine a person’s social status and power in Alcia. If a Count reaches zero, the person is sent to the Abyss, a place rumored to be worse than death.
Hina, a traveler whose Count is based on the distance she traveled, witnessed her mother get dragged down into the Abyss. Determined to fulfill her mother’s last wishes, she sets off on a journey in search of the legendary Aces—heroes of the war that happened three hundred years ago, bearing a white star next to their Count.
While wandering around, Hina encounters Licht Bach, a mysterious masked man with negative Count, and Nana, the owner of a tavern. In the midst of having a good time, Hina is tricked into a battle with a military soldier. However, despite his negative count, Licht rescues Hina and reveals that he has another count, one with a white star, one of a legendary Ace.
Plunderer follows the journey of Hina and other inhabitants of Alcia as they discover the truth about their world, the Abyss, and the legendary Aces.
