In One Piece, Luffy’s Devil Fruit aka Gommu Gommu no Mi is a fruit that grants the user’s body rubber-like properties which turns them into a Rubber Human of sorts. The fruit which was sought by the World Government was accidentally eaten by Monkey D. Luffy, the protagonist of One Piece.
The anime is based on the manga ‘One Piece’ which is written and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda. The show follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy and his crew, the Straw Hat Pirates, where he explores the Grand Line in search of the mythical treasure known as ‘One Piece’.
The highly anticipated Episode 1071 is all set to release on August 6, 2023, at 9:30 am JST.

Luffy and The Devil Fruit in One Piece
Luffy when he was young, ate the fruit, thus gaining a rubbery physique but also losing the ability to swim forever. Before the fruit was discovered, the World Government had been trying to obtain the Hito Hito no Mi (Gommu Gommu no Mi) as per the Five Elders.
The Mythical Zoan-type Fruit allows the user to transform into the legendary “Sun God” Nika and gain his attributes before being renamed and reclassified by the World Government to hide the truth. The Elders believe it is the nature of the fruit itself, which resulted in the Government not finding it in over 800 years.

Once the fruit is awakened, the user goes under drastic transformation. This is evident when Luffy transforms into Gear 3 and 4, where the user can alter their physical appearance without having the need to inflate their body.
Fans are excited to see Gear 5, which could see Luffy in his strongest avatar yet. Despite all the great advantages the user gets by using the fruit, there are a number of weaknesses. One major risk of the user’s powers is that their stretched limbs take a moment to retract back into place, leaving them vulnerable to attacks in the moments when their limbs are stretched.
