One Piece: How strong is Luffy’s Gear 5?

One of the most anticipated moments in ‘One Piece‘ is just days away from happening. Episode 1071 will finally see Luffy’s Gear 5 awakening. Kaido has a lot more on his plate, as the preview for the episode has got fans hyped to see Luffy become the Warrior of Liberation. 

The anime is based on the manga, ‘One Piece’ written and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda. The story follows the adventure of  Monkey D. Luffy and his crew, the Straw Hat Pirates, where he explores the Grand Line in search of the mythical treasure known as ‘One Piece’.

The highly anticipated Episode 1071 is all set to release on August 6, 2023, at 9:30 am JST.

What is Luffy’s Gear 5 in One Piece?

Gear 5 is the awakened form of the Gomu Gomu no Mi. It is similar to Paramecia’s awakening which allows the user the ability to manipulate their environment and strengthen the body. This ability in Luffy is awakened after he Luffy receives a devastating blow from Kaido, who presumes he is dead. 

Episode 1070 of One Piece saw  Luffy kind of defeated by Kaido. Kaido then announces the death to everyone which forces Law and Kid to retaliate while Momonosuke is arguing with Yamato. All of a sudden he is interrupted by Zunesha.

Luffy Gear 5 Awakens

Zunesha tells Momonosuke and Yamato that he hears the Drums of Liberation for the first time in 800 years. Towards the end of the episode, smoke starts rising out of Luffy’s body and his transformation begins. 

The drums that Zunesha hears are Luffy’s heartbeat which beats on a musical rhythm. Here’s a look at some of the techniques from the manga, that Luffy can use in his fight against Kaido.

As per the manga, Gear 5 is the first Gear form to be featured on Luffy’s bounty. It is also known as Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika, which increases the user’s rubber-like body’s strength. It also increases the devil fruit’s powers.
