Mullally revealed that she and her real-life husband Offerman will appear in The Umbrella Academy's fourth and final season.

Don't miss

The Umbrella Academy added Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally to Season 4’s line-up of acting talent along with comedian David Cross. According to CBR, Mullally revealed that she and her real-life husband Offerman will appear in The Umbrella Academy’s fourth and final season.

“[Nick and I portray] a mild-mannered married couple named Jean and Gene, who are college professors,” she said. “I mean, the deal’s not quite closed but let’s just pretend it is.”

Mullally added that she and Offerman are already scheduled to begin shooting their scenes for The Umbrella Academy Season 4 “in a couple of weeks.”

Netflix announced that it was renewing The Umbrella Academy for one last season in August 2022. The scripts for Season 4, which (like its predecessors) is based on the comic book series of the same name by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá, were reportedly mostly finished before Netflix’s announcement. At the time, showrunner Steve Blackman promised fans that the final batch of Umbrella Academy episodes would deliver a “fitting end to the Hargreeves siblings’ journey.”

Blackman later revealed that the premiere episode of The Umbrella Academy’s fourth season is titled “The Unbearable Tragedy of Getting What You Want,” in an Instagram post marking the start of production.

What Showrunner Said About Nick Offerman

Afterward, Netflix confirmed that Offerman and Mullally’s characters are named Dr. Gene Thibedeau and Dr. Jean Thibedeau, respectively, but added that Cross is playing Sy Grossman, described as a “shy business owner and family man” that is “desperate to reconnect with his estranged (and unnamed) daughter.” All three characters are original creations for the show.

The showrunner has also shared several other key details regarding The Umbrella Academy Season 4. This includes the season’s overall length, which Blackman confirmed would be much shorter than Seasons 1 to 3. Responding to a report that the comic book adaptation’s fourth season will consist of just six episodes, Buzzfeed wrote Blackman stated that this was indeed the case. At the same time, he insisted that The Umbrella Academy’s final installments represented quality over quantity, describing the sextet of episodes as “amazing.”

It’s unclear when fans will get to decide for themselves if The Umbrella Academy Season 4 lives up to Blackman’s hype, although the production edging closer to completion. The show’s official Twitter account recently announced that principal photography is now underway, tweeting a photo of the core cast following a table read.

Cast members pictured included Elliot Page (Viktor Hargreeves), Tom Hopper (Luther Hargreeves), Emmy Raver-Lampman ( Allison Hargreeves), Robert Sheehan (Klaus Hargreeves), David Castañeda (Diego Hargreeves), Aidan Gallagher (Five), Justin H. Min (Ben Hargreeves) and Ritu Arya (Lila Pitts).

On the other hand, The Umbrella Academy television series has many differences from its comic book counterpart, including some character powers, overall story progression as well as the villains and antagonists the characters face. While some villains within the comic books have crossed over to oppose the siblings, they have come in different versions than originally written in the colorful pages. And after the reality-shifting end to Season 3, it could be a great chance to bring back some familiar villainous faces.

Klaus And Luther’s Death

Klaus dies many, many times throughout the season, and as it turns out, the entire show. He spends the majority of his time bonding with and helping Reginald Hargreeves, who returns the favor by helping him figure out his powers and their strange connection to the afterlife.

Their primary discovery is that Klaus is immortal, with any death only sending him to “The Void” for a few minutes before his resurrection. His most notable death comes at the end of the season, when Reginald leaves him behind to be killed by the Kugelblitz, spurning the affection Klaus has shown for him.

Meanwhile, Luther’s death is a shock, with Reginald Hargreeves running him through in the White Buffalo Suite. This murder is a part of Reginald’s ultimate ploy, which involves convincing at least seven of the Umbrellas and/or Sparrows to follow him into Hotel Oblivion.

All his methods of diplomacy fail, and he kills Luther only so that he can blame that death on the guardian of the hotel. Reginald’s plan works, and Luther remains dead until the very end of the season, emerging into a new universe alongside his siblings. He’s even restored to his original appearance thanks to Allison, who had some input into crafting the new timeline.
