She then co-created the TV series Champions (2018), about a theater kid who moves in with his dad so that he can attend school in New York City. Kaling wrote several episodes and played the boy’s mother. In 2019 she cowrote an adaption of the 1994 romantic comedy Four Weddings and a Funeral as a limited series, featuring a more diverse cast, on Hulu. Drawing inspiration from her own life, Kaling then co-created and co-wrote the Netflix show Never Have I Ever, about a first-generation Indian American teenager. She later created The Sex Lives of College Girls, a comedy series that centers on four college roommates; it aired on HBO Max.
Kaling has been also a producer for Netflix‘s coming of age series, ‘Never Have I Ever‘. It is an American comedy- drama television series starring Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, created by Mindy Kaling and Lang Fisher. Basically the show is based upon Kaling’s childhood experiences. The show was premiered on April 27, 2020 in Netflix. The story revolves around a girl who lost her dad and is on her journey of adulting. On 1st July,2020 Netflix renewed the series for a second season which premiered on July 15, 2021, and now the fourth and final season is scheduled to premiere on June 8, 2023.

In a recent interview with People Magazine, Mindy Kaling announced she would be missing the Season 4 premiere of ‘Never Have I Ever’ in support of the Writer Guild of America strike. In the spirit of solidarity, Mindy Kaling is skipping out on the final season premiere of ‘Never Have I Ever’.
The creator of the 43 year old show has posted in the Instagram to pay tribute to the teen drama-comedy series and its four-season which is going to run on Netflix ahead of its red carpet event on Thursday.
Mindy Kaling shares a new picture on her Instagram and captioned her photo saying, “Tonight is the premiere of season four – the final season! – of ‘Never Have I Ever,'” Kaling captioned a photo of the cast. “Lang and I aren’t going to be at the premiere (#wgastrong!) so it was really important that I tell our cast and crew how much I love them, and how sad I am not to be joining them.”
The six-time Emmy winner shared how Never Have I Ever was inspired by her and Fisher’s own experiences of being “headstrong nerds” in high school by shouting out their names.“The outpouring of love for the show has been the highlight of my career,” she gushed. “It’s so meaningful when someone comes up to me at the airport or CVS or wherever and tells me that they watch the show and feel seen.”
It was her privilege of loving “what I get to do” and acknowledging how “lucky I am to be able to work in Hollywood at all,” Mindy Kaling shared the hopes of the strike ending soon.
On the other side the Velma actress continued “It sucks to miss all these fun and meaningful milestones, but it’s a great example of what we are willing to sacrifice to be treated fairly.”

On March 2022, Netflix has announced, Netflix has officially announced the series would be concluding with its fourth season.
“We’ve just been renewed for a fourth and final season, which we are absolutely thrilled about,” Kaling and Fisher said in a statement at the time. “We can’t wait to reveal all the steamy romance and hilarious adventures we have in store for you. Thanks to all our fans for your support – especially you #Bevi and #Daxton stans. We love you!”
