Never Have I Ever Season 4: Release Date, Plot, Cast, and More

Never Have I Ever Season 4: The end is near - get ready for the last twists and turns!

Don't miss

In Never Have I Ever season 4, Devi has to face the challenges of their senior year. When and how will it continue?

For fans of “Never Have I Ever“, there is reason to cheer because the fourth season starts in a few weeks on Netflix. Now, however, comes the big but: Never Have I Ever Season 4 will simultaneously open the final chapter of the Netflix teen series.

Never Have I Ever: What is it about?

Named after a popular drinking game, Netflix is launching another coming-of-age series in April 2020 that deals with the diverse problems of an adolescent. The series focuses on a first-generation Indian-American growing up in the U.S. who must navigate between modern America and Indian traditions.

The story is inspired by the experiences of comedian and actress Mindy Kaling, who dealt with these same issues and problems in her youth. Kaling is known for critically incorporating her Indian ancestry and the treatment of her peers into her stage performances and acting roles, respectively. In cinema, she was last seen in 2019 in the film “Late Night,” which dealt with a similar theme.

For a first season, ten episodes were produced by Universal Television and will be available on streaming provider Netflix from April 27, 2020. The coming-of-age series is released for ages 12 and up.

Devi (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan) is a sophomore in high school and a real overachiever. The smart teenager with Indian roots wants nothing more than to be accepted by her classmates and to be popular. To be on the safe side, she first says a prayer in front of the shrine at home before starting the new school year. A cool party with alcohol and drugs (which she will of course refuse) and a boyfriend (not a nerd, better a good-looking athlete) should be in the cards, right Lakshmi?

That Devi’s mission won’t necessarily be easy soon turns out. Especially with her temper, the teenager gets into trouble repeatedly. In addition to her school duties and personal aspirations, she also has her parents breathing down her neck, who want their daughter to stick to the old traditions as well. Will Devi succeed in finding a balance between the two worlds?

Never Have I Ever Season 4 Release Date: Is coming in June 2023

While the Netflix audience was still waiting for the start of the third season, showrunner Mindy Kaling announced via Twitter that “Never Have I Ever” has officially been extended by season 4. This one will not only present us with Devi’s (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan) senior year in high school but will also herald the series finale at the same time. The final episodes of the teen drama will be available on Netflix from June 8, 2023.

Never Have I Ever Season 4 Plot: What happens next?

Warning: Spoilers to season 3 follow

The fact that “Never Have I Ever” is entering the final chapter of the teen series with season 4 may spoil the mood of some. However, it would be best if you see this announcement positively: After all, it means that Devi, Ben (Jaren Lewison), Aneesa (Megan Suri) and Co. are sure to have a round ending. Leading actress Maitreyi Ramakrishnan also promises this on Instagram:

“This show is so close to my heart. I am honored to help tell this story. So I promise to do my best to make you all proud. And myself as well. Let’s do it again, shall we?”

As the actress reveals in another Instagram post, you can expect ten new episodes in Never Have I Ever season 4, in which, according to Mindy Kaling, things will get racy. For example, Devi’s identity crisis as an Indian-American could climax after she decides against Shrubland boarding school and for another year at her mother’s house.

Meanwhile, her feelings will likely be on a roller coaster after her first time with Ben – especially since he hooked up with Margot (Victoria Moroles). Of course, the end of Season 3 doesn’t reveal whether Devi and Ben slept together. Did one of the two change his mind at the last moment?

But this decision might not be very important because a new student named Ethan (Michael Cimino) is turning the heads of some of the ladies at Sherman Oaks High (via The Wrap). Will this possibly lead to new confrontations between Devi, Aneesa and Eleanor (Ramona Young)? At least the trailer reveals that Ethan and Devi will get very close.

In addition, the trailer shows that Paxton (Darren Barnet) will return. The T-shirt with the inscription “Sherman Oaks SOHS Swim Team” suggests that he could be a swimming instructor. So Devi’s heart might not be at rest in the fourth season. Who will she choose in the end? Or: Will she be able to decide at all?

And as if all that wasn’t enough drama, Devi’s clique has to prepare for the long-awaited graduation, write college applications and, above all, face one question: What should the future look like? After all, with Never Have I Ever season 4, senior year has arrived and life after school is getting closer and closer.

Never Have I Ever Season 4 Cast: Is Paxton and Devi in season 4?

Those who have grown fond of the cast of “Never Have I Ever” can breathe a sigh of relief because, as things stand, the old familiar faces will remain with us in the series finale. However, since Paxton has already graduated in season 3, actor Darren Barnet is likely to be shorter than before. As The Wrap reports, “Love, Victor” star Michael Cimino will also be mixing it up with the students of Sherman Oaks High.

The cast at a glance:

  • Maitreyi Ramakrishnan as Devi
  • Jaren Lewison as Ben
  • Megan Suri as Aneesa
  • Ramona Young as Eleanor
  • Benjamin Norris as Trent
  • Lee Rodriguez as Fabiola
  • Richa Moorjanii as Kamala
  • Poorna Jagannathan as Devi’s mother Nalini
  • Anirudh Pisharody as Des
  • Darren Barnet as Paxton
  • Michael Cimino as Ethan

Why is “Never Have I Ever” ending after season 4?

It’s official: there will not be a fifth season. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Mindy Kaling explained why “Never Have I Ever” is coming to an end after Season 4:

“Four seasons for a high school series felt like it made sense. You can’t be in high school forever. We’ve seen series like that before. It’s like being in high school for 12 years then. What’s going on there? Plus, actors* are getting older and it looks weird to have 34-year-olds playing 15-year-olds.”
