‘Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2’ is the much-awaited sequel to ‘Jujutsu Kaisen’, the popular anime based on the manga by Gege Akutami. The series follows Yuji Itadori who accidentally becomes a vessel for Ryomen Sukuna, the King of Curses.
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 will be airing on July 6, 2023. The anime is based on two arcs from the ‘Jujutsu Kaisen Manga’. Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 will adapt from ‘Gojo’s Past arc’ and also pick up from the ‘Shibuya Incident arc’.
However, the entire ‘Shibuya Incident arc’ is likely not to be included in this season of the anime which is limited to 23/24 episodes.
Gojo’s Past Arc (Jujutsu Kaisen 5th arc)
Gojo’s Past Arc is the fifth arc from the manga. In the anime adaptation, the arc is also referred to as Hidden Inventory/Premature Death Arc. The arc sheds light on Gojo’s origins as a sorcerer, the trials he faced, and a deeper understanding of the storyline.
The story follows Gojo and his classmate/best friend Suguru Geto as they train under Yaga to become stronger. During his time at Jujutsu High, Gojo also develops the groundbreaking Limitless Cursed Technique, which sets him apart from his peers.
As the arc progresses, we witness Gojo’s role in the ‘Star Plassma Vessel’ Incident and the aftermath of the ‘Shibuya Incident’ which leaves an impact on Gojo and other sorcerers of Jujutsu Kaisen.
The arc also contains glimpses of Gojo’s personal life and they will likely be adapted to the anime series as MAPPA Studios have stuck to the source material.
Shibuya Incident Arc (Jujutsu Kaisen 6th arc)
Probably one of the most influential arcs from the manga, the sixth arc follows the entirety of the Shibuya Incident that takes place on October 31, 2018. The arc follows the battle between cursed spirits and cursed users alliance formed by Mahito and Kenjaku against humans and other Jujutsu Sorcerers.
The arc revolves around the attack led by Mahito and Kenjaku in Shibuya, Tokyo. In this arc, we see Yuji embrace his role as a sorcerer, and use Sukuna’s powers to fight off the spirits and also try not to lose control of his body.
The arc also includes new alliances and unexpected team-ups among the characters. As when the arc reaches its climax, the aftermath of the incident causes a heavy impact in the world of Jujutsu Kaisen.
We are likely adaptation of this arc towards the end of the season and after Gojo’s Past Arc.
