Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 1: Recap
*Spoilers ahead for Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 1*
Episode 1 of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 starts with Geto Suguru walking the streets of Tokyo and swallowing cursed spirits. He questions the existence of Jujutsu and while doing so runs into Gojo Satoru. Both of them are meters apart from each other in a crowded place and are having an intense standoff. The scene ends and the main storyline begins.
This was an incredibly intense moment between the two main characters of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2, ending on a massive cliffhanger. We hope that the end of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 will pick off from this scene.
The Episode adapts from ‘Gojo’s Past Arc’ and we can see that a young Mei Mei and Utahime Iori are sent on a mission to investigate a haunted house. They are trapped in the cursed spirits barrier but manage to break free.
The duo were gone for longer than anticipated and Gojo Satoru and Geto Suguru are sent to rescue them. Shoko Ieiri also is present there, and the three head back to Jujutsu High after making sure they are fine. Satoru forgets to use a curtain to hide their presence and gets scolded by their teacher Masamichi Yaga for exposing jujutsu to the public.
Later in the basketball court, Gojo and Suguru argue about whether jujutsu should be exposed to the public or not; and also the purpose of Jujutsu. Before their argument gets any more intense, Shoko decides on leaving the court for her own safety, and as the fight is about to escalate, they are interrupted by Yaga.
Yaga assigns the pair on a special mission by Master Tengen. He explains to them that Master Tengen has the Art of Immortality but for it to be complete, he must have a vessel. Their mission is to protect the Star Plasma Vessel, Riko Amanai.
This is to ensure that there is balance in the jujutsu world and that evolution doesn’t happen. Also if Master Tengen fails to merge with the Star Plasma Vessel, he may end up being a threat to humanity.
Yaga also cautions them about two groups targeting Riko. Q, a group of curse users who want to stop the ritual and Time Vessel Association which is a cult that worships Master Tengen.
The duo finally reaches the secret hideout of Riko only to find out that Q already launched the attack on them. Suguru Geto using his cursed spirits manages to save Riko, while Gojo prepares to fight another member of Q.
The episode ends with a member of the Time Vessel Association meeting with Toji Fushiguro and offering him money in exchange for Riko’s corpse.
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 2: Preview and What to Expect?
Episode 1 ends with Suguru Geto saving Riko from falling down the skyscraper but it is unclear if there are more Q members around the building. Gojo also challenges one of the Q members and mocks him by offering not to kill him if he were to cry and apologize.
A key takeaway from the episode was the introduction of Fushiguro Toji. The mercenary finally made his debut in the anime after mentions of him in Season 1 of Jujutsu Kaisen. In Episode 1, Toji denounces his Zenin last name and tells the member of the Time Vessel Association that he now goes by Fushiguro.
We can hope for an intense turn of events in Episode 2. Will Suguru manage to save Riko? Will Toji attack the pair? All questions will be answered on July 13, 2023, when Episode 2 of Jujutsu Kaisen comes out. You can stream the show on Netflix or Crunchyroll.
