‘Depp v. Heard Episode 1′ is here and we finally get to see more of the infamous courtroom trial. The series which has premiered on Netflix is being directed by Emmy and BAFTA Nominee, Emma Cooper.
Depp v. Heard Episode 1 follows the trial proceedings between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard. It focuses on why the former married couple ended up in court over defamation charges against each other.
Here’s everything that happened in Depp v. Heard Episode 1.

Depp v. Heard Episode 1: Fairfax County Courthouse
The series contains footage from the trial which has been edited in a manner to show both testimonies side by side. The trial was live-streamed online and became an internet sensation in 2022.
Depp v. Heard Episode 1 starts with the trial taking place at Fairfax County Courthouse in Virginia. The reason for this is that the op-ed which Amber Heard wrote in ‘The Washington Post’ is based out of Virginia State.
The trial was live-streamed, and as per the laws in Virginia State, it is up to the Judge to decide whether the court hearing could be recorded or not. Both Johnny Depp and Amber Heard show up at the courthouse, with a majority of Johnny Depp fans cheering for him.

Depp v. Heard Episode 1: Defamation
Depp v. Heard Episode 1 starts with both representatives of the parties making their opening statements. Benjamin Chew represents Johnny and Ben Rottenborn represents Amber. Both attorneys make solid arguments, with the former claiming defamation and the latter claiming false accusations.
During the trial, video as well as audio recordings of both, Johnny and Amber having heated exchanges from time to time were submitted as evidence. One notable point during the trial was that Johnny Depp did not make eye contact with Amber Heard once.
Both parties were also called upon to give their testimony, with many claiming that Amber’s were more of an act. During the trial, Amber was subject to abuse and hate online, but for her rather infamous ‘poop’ incident.

Depp v. Heard Episode 1: Cross-Examination
Both Johnny Depp and Amber Heard revisited their marriage within the walls of the courtroom. Friends of both parties gave their testimonies as well. Throughout the trial, Amber was subject to an ‘internet’ trial, with many claiming that she is lying.
There were contradicting testimonies from both sides and eventually, everything comes down to the cross-examination and the verdict by the jury. Depp v. Heard Episode 1 focused on the early aspects of Depp and Heard’s life.
With 2 more parts left for the limited series, it will be interesting to see how the trial progress. Fans already know the verdict of the trial but we will get a clearer picture of what exactly led to it. Do note, that the series contains clips that have been cut short, and not the entire trial proceedings.
