Cillian Murphy plays the role of Robert J. Oppenheimer in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film ‘Oppenheimer’ which is based on the theoretical physicist. Robert J. Oppenheimer is also known as the ‘Father of the Atomic Bomb’. He is widely regarded as one of the most influential scientists of the 20th century.
Alongside Cillian Murphy, Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer includes some of the best faces of Hollywood in the cast. Emily Blunt, Rami Malek, Matt Damon, Florence Pugh, and Robert Downey Jr are just some of the few names from the cast. Oppenheimer is all set to release on July 21, 2023.
Robert J. Oppenheimer – Early Life
Robert J. Oppenheimer was born in New York to a wealthy Jewish family. Ever since he was young, he had exceptional intellectual abilities and pursued his education at many prominent institutions.
Robert attended Harvard University from which he earned his undergraduate degree in 1925. He also pursued further studies at the University of Cambridge in England, where he worked with the renowned physicist J.J. Thomson and earned his Ph.D. in theoretical physics in 1927.
Oppenheimer obtained his Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Göttingen under Max Born.

The Manhattan Project
Robert J.Oppenheimer’s most notable achievement came during World War II where he played a key role in the Manhattan Project. The Manhattan Project was a top-secret U.S. government research project aimed at developing an atomic bomb.
Robert was the scientific director of Los Alamos Laboratory in New Mexico, where the project was headquartered. He assembled a team of scientists and engineers, overseeing the technical aspects of the bomb’s development.

Under Robert J. Oppenheimer, the Manhattan Project was a success. They successfully built and detonated the first atomic bomb, which came to be known as the Trinity Test on July 16, 1945. 2 more bombs were detonated on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, which ended World War II.
Post World War II, Robert J. Oppenheimer became a professor at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, New Jersey. He continued to contribute to the field of theoretical physics and mentored many young students.
