Oppenheimer has got everyone on the edge of their seats, especially Christopher Nolan fans who claim this could be one of his best works yet. Oppenheimer is an upcoming biological thriller film about the American theoretical physicist, J.Robert Oppenheimer (played by Cillian Murphy) who helped The United States of America develop their first nuclear weapons.
“Oppenheimer is no different, I think it’s a truly essential cinematic experience, And I know that’s what I’m supposed to say, that’s the studio line. But you have to see this in the cinema on the biggest fucking screen possible. There are moments in it that will blow people’s lids off”. Said Cillian Murphy in an interview with The Empire.
Along with Cillian Murphy, the movie includes a star-studded cast of Emily Blunt, Rami Malek, Matt Damon, and Robert Downey Jr. just to name a few. Oppenheimer is the sixth movie in which Christopher Nolan and Cillian Murphy will be working together and the first for Murphy in the lead role. The movie is set during the World War II years.
Filming of Oppenheimer
For the first time, this movie was shot on the IMAX 65mm and 65mm large format film and IMAX black and white format. According to Nolan, the film length is 3 hours and 11 miles long. Yep, that’s how much film was used for the movie. Like his previous projects, Christopher Nolan is well known for his unique cinematography style that involves more practical events and less computer-generated work.
Christopher Nolan
Christopher Nolan is renowned for his intricate story-telling, stunning cinematography, and his movies are a testament to that. Nolan’s movies often have a unique aspect to them and he studies his genres well before implementing them into his movies. One of his breakthrough movies, ‘Memento’ (2000) gained recognition and acclaim for the non-linear approach to the movie.
Inception (2010) starring Leonardo DiCaprio is another one of Nolan’s movies known for its stunning visuals about a movie that balances reality and fantasy (dreams). The Batman trilogy comprising “Batman Begins” (2005), “The Dark Knight” (2008), and “The Dark Knight Rises” (2012) is said to be one of the best superhero movies ever to date.
Some remarkable things that Christopher Nolan has done in his movies
- Crashing an actual plan in “Tenet” (2020) as Nolan found it was much cheaper to do so than using props and CGI
- Building a real-life-sized rotating set in “Inception” (2010) as he wanted to re-create the gravitational motion as accurately as possible.
- Flipping a real 18-wheeler truck in “The Dark Knight” (2008)
