Are you wondering what will happen to Geralt, Yennefer and Ciri after Henry Cavill’s departure? Then you can find here all the important information about what the template reveals about the plot of the next episodes and when we can expect the start of season 4 on Netflix.
The Witcher Season 4 Release Date: When is The Witcher Season 4 coming?
Netflix has already ordered season 4 and even season 5. However, the production is affected by the ongoing double strike in Hollywood. According to the usually reliable fan site Redanian Intelligence, filming, which was actually scheduled for September 2023, has been postponed and will not begin until 2024.
Liam Hemsworth’s The Witcher debut will therefore be quite a while in coming. We should not expect a Netflix start of season 4 before 2025. Fortunately, Netflix already has a replacement in the wings to shorten the wait.
A prequel miniseries about the rat gang already introduced at the end of season 3 is expected to launch in 2024. Filming for this ended in July 2023 in South Africa. In addition to the six young thieves, it will also feature action legend Dolph Lundgren as the brutal sorcerer Brehen. In addition, we can expect a new anime film: The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep.
Which novel is The Witcher Season 4 based on?
The novel world of Andrzej Sapkowski’s Witcher saga serves as the template for the Netflix series. After season 1 filmed several short stories from the anthologies The Last Wish and The Sword of Providence, the series is dedicated to the novels of the main pentalogy series from season 2 on. In Season 4, the plot of the third volume, entitled Baptism of Fire, is adapted.
In addition, there is the possibility that Season 4 could already weave parts from the follow-up volume, The Swallow Tower, into the plot. For the characters Yennefer and Ciri in particular, Volume 4 offers little material to fill an entire season with.
The Witcher Season 4 Plot: What happens next in The Witcher season 4 on Netflix?
Warning, spoilers: At the end of Season 3, it became clear that Geralt, Ciri (Freya Allan) and Yennefer (Anya Chalotra) will have to go on separate adventures from now on, while Nilfgaard and the kingdoms of the North remain at war after the events on Thanedd. Also in the original, the witch family will not find each other again for a long time.
The series will split into three different storylines starting in Season 4:
- Ciri will lead a new life as a thief and member of the rat gang under the name Falka
- Geralt will roam the continent in search of Ciri
- Yennefer, as the leader of the newly founded Lodge of Sorceresses, will devote herself to the task of finding and killing Vilgefortz and making the continent a safe place for her foster daughter.
Looking at the original, Geralt’s journey to Nilfgaard, where he suspects Ciri, will play a particularly important role. Having already Knight’s Spur (Joey Batey) and the archer Milva (Meng’er Zhang) at his side, he will be joined by other companions along the way. On the one hand, there’s the well-known Nilfgaarder Cahir (Eamon Farren): On the other hand, a completely new character will be the vampire Emiel Regis Rohellec Terzieff-Godefroy (or simply Regis).
