The Rising Of The Shield Hero Storyline
The Rising of the Shield Hero is a popular isekai light novel series written by Aneko Yusagi, which started as a web novel in Japan. The series has been adapted into a novel format with illustrations by Seira Minami.
The story follows Naofumi Iwatani, an ordinary Japanese college student, who is summoned to another world along with three other people. They are chosen to become the “Cardinal Heroes”, who have to fight against waves of monsters and save the world.
Each hero is given a legendary weapon, and Naofumi receives the Legendary Shield. However, he soon faces betrayal and false accusations from his fellow heroes and the kingdom. He is left alone and penniless in this strange world, with no one to trust or help him.
His only companion is a young demi-human girl named Raphtalia, whom he buys from a slave trader. Raphtalia gradually overcomes her traumatic past and becomes loyal to Naofumi.
Together, they embark on a journey to prove Naofumi’s innocence and protect the world from the looming threat of the waves!
The Rising of the Shield Hero has received critical praise for its plot and characters; especially Raphtalia, who won the “Best Girl” award at the Crunchyroll Anime Awards in 2020.
As of 2022, more than 20 novels have been published, and The Rising of the Shield Hero has expanded into manga and anime adaptations.
The anime was announced in 2017 and aired in 2019 on Crunchyroll. Season 1 was animated by Kinema Citrus, known for Made in Abyss.
Season 2 was produced by DR Movie, who have worked on various overseas projects such as High Guardian Spice and The Batman.
