Warner Bros has released another trailer for Dune: Part Two and it’s absolutely breathtaking. The first trailer revealed that Paul (Timothee Chalamet) had become one of the Fremen tribe members, and the second trailer confirms the same, as Paul is seen addressing the tribe.
The trailer also showed Paul reuniting with Gurney (Josh Brolin). There were also hints between Chani (Zendaya) and Paul’s blooming romance. However, the Fremen says that she fights for her people and not for him.
Dune Part Two will see the prophet-turned-rebel leader try to avenge his father’s death by the Harkonnens and the Emperor. The movie is all set for a theatrical release on November 3, 2023. Fans who have read the novel can expect a similar ending to the movie as Director Denis Villeneuve has stuck to the original source material in part one.
Dune: The Story So Far
The movie is based on Frank Herbert’s Novel of the same name. Here’s a brief summary of the movie.
*Spoilers ahead for Dune (2021)*
The movie takes place in a distant future where planets are ruled by different houses. The story follows the Atreides family and their journey to the desert planet Arrakis, also known as Dune. Duke Leto Atreides accepts the stewardship of Arrakis, which is home to the valuable spice called melange.
The spices on the planet are vital for space travel and heightened abilities, which make it highly sought after. Amidst the harsh conditions which make it difficult to harvest the spices, the Artreides family also have to battle other houses like the Harkonnens, and the native people of the planet, ‘The Fremen’.
Paul Atreides, the son of Duke Leto and Lady Jessica, experiences visions and dreams, foreshadowing his destiny. Lady Jessica who is part of the Bene Gesserit order, trains Paul in their special mental and physical skills.
As tensions rise, the Harkonnens launch a surprise attack on House Atreides which results in the death of Duke Leto. Paul and Lady Jessica escape into the desert where they are rescued by the Fremen leader, Stilgar.
Paul along with the Fremen and other allies plans a counterattack against the Harkonnens and the corrupt Emperor Shaddam IV. Paul defeats Feyd-Rautha, nephew of Barok Harkonnen, and emerges as the leader. The Fremen name him ‘Muad’Dib’.
The film ends with Paul standing victorious in front of the Fremen. He embraces his role as he is about to turn his visions into reality.
Dune has won multiple awards, including 6 Academy Awards. The film has grossed over $402 million worldwide. Dennis Villeneuve had said that Dune was only the intro and that the sequels will be where we see the best of the franchise.
