‘Depp v. Heard Episode 3′, the final episode from the limited series, focuses on the verdict and the aftermath of it. The series which is now streaming on Netflix, is directed by Emmy and BAFTA Nominee, Emma Cooper.
Depp v. Heard is a documentary series that is based on the trial proceedings between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard in Fairfax County Courthouse, Virginia. Episode 2 looked into the testimony of Amber and the wrath that she faced online.
The couple filed for divorce in 2016 and came across each other again in a cross-defamation trial in 2022. The trial was one of the most popular incidents which took the internet by storm in 2022.

Depp v. Heard Episode 3: The Verdict
Depp v. Heard series contains compilations of the trial footage, along with insights from experts, public opinions, and fan reactions. The trial is between the former married couple, Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, who met in 2009 while filming ‘The Rum Diary’. They began dating around 2012 and were married in February 2015. A year later, Heard filed for divorce in May 2016 by alleging abuse.
Amber claimed that Depp had abused her physically, under the influence of alcohol and drugs, which Depp denied. In the Virginia Depp v. Heard trial, Depp, as the plaintiff, filed a complaint of defamation against defendant Heard, claiming $50 million in damages. Heard counter-sued Depp, claiming $100 million in damages.
The Jury ruled in favor of Johnny Depp and awarded him $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages from Heard. The jury stated that Heard’s references to ‘sexual violence’ and ‘domestic abuse’ were false. Heard won one of the three defamation charges and was awarded $2 million in damages.

Both parties were also subjected to an online trial as well. Depp v. Heard was being talked about outside the courtroom as well. A majority of the public was in favor of Johnny, and already labeled him as innocent before the verdict was even out.
In an interview after the trial, Amber claimed that the social media campaign online had massively influenced the outcome of the trial. Depp’s attorney team claimed that they did not pay anyone to organize any campaigns online.
Throughout the trial, a lot of misinformation was spread online, which led to Amber Heard being subject to a lot of hate and abuse. Even tho Amber did one count of defamation, the internet labeled her as a monster.
The series portrayed that there is often more happening behind the lights and cameras. The series compiled hours’ worth of footage into 3 parts. Many key points were left from the series and fans online argued that the series negatively portrays Amber Heard.
