Will there ever be Dagashi Kashi Season 3? Will it ever return someday?

When you hear the terms “gourmet anime” or “cooking anime,” what comes to mind? You probably think of Food Wars as the answer. Apparently, there are a number of shows out there that follows this genre, but none of them gets the same success as Food Wars. Among those anime, stands Dagashi Kashi, a rare gem that has completely earned the heart of many viewers.

Dagashi Kashi, in contrast to Food Wars, appears to be a slice-of-life show that is straightforward but nourishing and suitable for a quick watch. Also, it contains humorous features that will make you smile.

Dagashi Kashi began life as a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Kotoyama. It has been serialized in Shogakukan’s shōnen manga magazine Weekly Shōnen Sunday since June 25, 2014. The manga series ran for a total of eleven tankobon volumes before closing on April 11, 2018. The manga was a hit because it was nominated in the category of “best shounen manga” for the 41st Kodansha Manga Awards in 2017.

Eventually, the manga was turned into an anime series by Feel, the studio that has published various successful titles such as the second and third seasons of Oregairu, Kiss x Sis, Tsuki ga Kirei, Hinamatsuri, and last but not least, Remake Our Life.

Then a second season, which served as a sequel, was made available. Tezuka Productions took charge of the series production this time. Tezuka Productions is the studio most known for its anime productions such as Dororo, The Quintessential Quintuplets, and Girlfriend, Girlfriend.

The first season began airing on January 8, 2016 and ended on April 1 of the same year after twelve episodes. Dagashi Kashi’s second season, which debuted on January 12, 2018, and ran through March 30, 2018, both had twelve episodes.

Many fans are clamoring for a third season now that the second one has concluded. What is the status of Dagashi Kashi Season 3’s renewal?

As of now, we haven’t received any information regarding Dagashi Kashi Season 3. Therefore, the current whereabouts of the sequel still remain a mystery up to this point.

Will Dagashi Kashi Season 3 ever be released?

Regrettably, Dagashi Kashi Season 3 would be exceedingly improbable. The main reason is that the manga series has already met its end. Most adaptations are designed to promote the original, and if the source itself has already stopped earning sales, then there is little sense in developing a new season. In short, there’s nothing left to promote anymore.

In terms of source material, the studio will barely have enough source material to make a season renewal. A total of 186 chapters were covered during the first and second seasons, leaving the studio with just about 60 chapters to work with.

Given these reasons, it is best to suppose that Dagashi Kashi Season 3 would never be produced.
