- In an interview, Dominique Thorne now reveals why Riri makes her first appearance in “Black Panther 2.”
“Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” has been successfully launched in cinemas. The blockbuster is the finale of the fourth phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Accordingly, the overall plot has been advanced by introducing Namor and Riri Wiliams aka Ironheart.
Ironheart is played by Dominique Thorne, who will reprise the role in the Disney+ series “Ironheart.” Filming has already wrapped and “Ironheart” is scheduled to begin streaming in the fall of 2023. But why was Riri Williams first introduced in “Black Panther 2” and not in her Disney+ series?
Actress Dominique Thorne addressed this question and provided an answer in an interview with US magazine Collider:
“And I think as we dive into this world of Ironheart, it also gives us a chance to get to know who Riri is when there’s not so much at stake, but also see what adventures she might go on, what she might be struggling with and reflecting on in terms of her own ambitions that have brought her to where she is now.”
Thorne continues, “I think it’s up until this moment in ‘Wakanda Forever’ that we think, why now of all times? Why are we seeing Riri on this day of all days?’ Well, on this day, Riri discovers the potential that lies within her.”

Black Panther 2: Plot
“Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” represents a sequel to “Black Panther”, but in typical Marvel fashion also makes reference to other films such as “Avengers: Endgame” and “Black Widow” or “The Falcon and The Winter Soldier”. In terms of content, the film picks up on the death of Chadwick Boseman and also lets T’Challa die.
Namor, the Marvel counterpart to DC’s Aquaman, is introduced as the antagonist for the residents of Wakanda. Further info is being kept under wraps. After all, Marvel fans should not be spoiled. With Riri Williams, by the way, another new character will be introduced, who will get her own Disney+ series with “Ironheart”.
