Wednesday Season 2: Release Date, Plot, Cast and News

Don't miss

The first season of the Netflix series “Wednesday” broke almost all streaming records and now finally comes the good news: Netflix has confirmed a continuation of the hit series. You can find all the latest information here.

The first season of the series about the offspring of the Addams Family broke several streaming records and even knocked Netflix flagship series “Stranger Things” from the top spot of series with the most viewing hours. “Wednesday” was the most-watched series on the streaming service for a full four weeks, qualifying as the third most successful series of all time on Netflix with a whopping 1.2 billion hours streamed. So it’s no wonder that Netlix confirmed a second season of the teen horror series via a video on Instagram in January 2023.

Wednesday Season 2: When is coming to Netflix?

Shortly before the confirmation of the second season, there were rumors that the second season (if there would be one) would no longer be shown on Netflix, but on Amazon Prime Video. Amazon bought out Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer at the time – and the rights to the characters featured in “Wednesday” were held by that film production company.

At the latest since the promise that “Wednesday” will be continued, it is now clear that the second season will also appear on Netflix. The streaming provider has not yet named a concrete start date. Nevertheless, there are already speculations about the start date of the sequel. The series’ first season was shot in just half a year and released on Netflix in November 2022. Season 2, according to these calculations, should most likely appear at the end of 2023. You’ll find it out here as soon as there is an exact start date.

Wednesday Season 2: The plot

The first season ended with a cliffhanger and left quite a few questions unanswered. The most important one is: Who is Wednesdays stalker? The speculations of the fans range from Xavier to Yoko. Xavier, played by Percy Hynes White, is the obvious solution for many fans. After all, he is the one who gives Wednesday the cell phone in the end. However, he would have needed an accomplice for the pictures that the stalker takes of Wednesday. And that would completely change the relationship between him and Wednesday.

Therefore, in the social media, Yoko, played by Naomi J. Ogawa, is the stalker for many. The biggest motive for her would be jealousy. Because Enid (Emma Myers), moves into Yoko’s room for a short time after an argument with Wednesday. Only to go back to Wednesday (Jenna Ortega) again. Also, Enid and Wednesday become pretty good friends – something Yoko doesn’t have. Enid is Wednesday’s first real friend, and also the first person she admits to being close to.

As Al Gough and Miles Millar shared, they definitely want to continue the story of Wednesday and Enid’s friendship. Al Gough and Miles Millar said this is not out of the question when asked if the two could also develop romantic feelings for each other. However, the development of the relationship between the two friends would have to feel natural and fit the story.

Gough and Millar also said that they would also like to focus on the relationship between Wednesday and her mother, Morticia Addams (Catherine Zeta-Jones), in the second season. That relationship offers plenty of material for further storylines, the showrunners said.

After the success of the dance scene in “Wednesday” Season 1, it is now certain that there will also be an interesting dance scene in Season 2. Luis Guzmán, who plays Gomez Addams, revealed in an interview that he will be dancing in the second season. When asked if Gomez will be seen more often in the upcoming season, he replied, “That’s the plan. I’ll be dancing, I’ll be sword fighting.” Those who know the “Addams Family” movies from the 90s know that Morticia and Gomez love to dance. Gomez is also a good swordsman. Sometimes he combines the two passions – such as in the “Mamushka” dance in the 1991 film. Will this dance be recreated in season 2 of “Wednesday”? That would certainly please fans.

Wednesday Season 2 Cast: Who is back?

As mentioned, Netflix has not revealed further information about Wednesday season 2. Thus, we can currently (as of March 2023) only speculate that Jenna Ortega will be back in the title character role. Although the actress will soon be seen in four new productions (including “Scream 6”), filming has been completed for three of them. Thus, nothing prevents her from returning for the second season as Wednesday Addams.

Based on the showrunners’ statements that they would very much like to tell more about the friendship between Wednesday and Enid and the relationship with Morticia, we assume that these two actresses will be there as well: Emma Myers and Catherine Zeta-Jones. That Luis Guzmán will return as Gomez should be clear after he said he will dance in season 2. Most likely, the other members of the Addams Family will also reappear: Uncle Fester (Fred Armisen) and Pugsley (Isaac Ordonez).

“Game of Thrones” star Gwendoline Christie could provide a surprise: although her character (principal Larissa Weems) dies in the first season, the actress hinted that she could also star in season 2: “We didn’t see her buried, did we?” she said in an interview with Digital Spy. Which could become a problem, though: “The Sandman” has also been renewed for a second season. Christie also stars there, which could cause conflicts in her calendar.
