Netflix has assured three seasons of the Vikings series, but after that it’s over. The new episodes will be released in early 2024.
Shortly after the first season was released, a second and third season were officially ordered. In total, we are therefore guaranteed 24 episodes of this historical series. It is now clear what will happen next: not at all. The second season of “Vikings: Valhalla” has been on Netflix since January 12, 2023 and brought eight new episodes that are once again action-packed and fast-paced. Freydís, Leif and Harald each face their own problems at the end of the season. New relationships develop and potential new conflicts are on the horizon at the end of the current season. The above image from the new season clearly indicates that Freydís, as a follower of the old faith, is in serious trouble.
Vikings: Valhalla season 3: When will the new episodes start on Netflix?
With the next eight episodes already in the bag, it was relatively clear that Netflix would stick to its popular annual schedule and release the third season in winter 2024. Although the winter has not yet been specifically named, the first clip for the next season was released by Netflix on Twitter. It doesn’t reveal anything new in terms of content, but at least the 2024 start date is now highly official. It can be assumed that Netflix will stick to the rotation and the new episodes will be released in February 2024.
Marvel star joins the cast of the third season of “Vikings: Valhalla”
As Deadline reported, a new character will be joining the cast in the third season. It is George Maniakes, a general of the Byzantine Empire. This real-life historical figure is played by Florian Munteanu, known from “Creed 2” and the Marvel film “Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings”. The first account of George Maniakes dates back to 1031 and refers to a Byzantine campaign. In 1043, Maniakes had himself proclaimed counter-emperor and confronted Emperor Constantine’s troops, but succumbed to his wounds on the battlefield.
If you want to become as strong as Munteneanu, you can now tackle this with “Big Nasty” and your own training program:
Will there be a fourth season of “Vikings: Valhalla”?
Even though series creator Jeb Stuart has hinted that he has more ideas for follow-up seasons, Netflix has ended the Vikings story for the time being. So after the third season, it’s over. As the concept was designed for 24 episodes from the outset, we can probably hope for a well-rounded ending.
If the wait until the third season is too long for you, you can pick up a sword and explore the world yourself with Netflix, as a new game for the series has been available from the provider since September.
