The Super Mario Bros Movie is now explicitly the 20th-highest-grossing movie worldwide in cinema history with $1.278 billion in global receipts and is just $6 million away from displacing Frozen from the #19 spot on the charts after another dazzling week of strong box office holds and clear audience excitement for the start of summer movie season.

The Nintendo-based Super Mario Bros Movie crossed the $1 billion mark during its fourth weekend of release, making it the most successful video game adaptation of all time.

According to Forbes, The Super Mario Bros Movie’s current box office revenue and, most likely, ultimate box office position is one of the front-runners for the highest-grossing movie of 2023 undoubtedly.

What is The Super Mario Bros Movie All About?

The Super Mario Bros Movie is a new, big-screen adventure starring one of pop culture’s most well-known plumbers from the previous four decades that marks the first collaboration between the legendary global entertainment brands Illumination and Nintendo.

Based on the Mario video game universe, this action-packed, joyous cinematic comedy event welcomes viewers into a vivid, exhilarating new environment unlike any other ever imagined.

Brooklyn plumbers Mario (Chris Pratt; Jurassic realm and The LEGO Movie franchises) and brother Luigi (Charlie Day; It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) are transported down a mystery pipe and wander into a wonderful new realm while working underground to restore a water main. Mario, however, sets off on an extraordinary search for Luigi after the brothers become separated.

Mario gains control of his own strength with the help of Toad, an inhabitant of the Mushroom Kingdom (Keegan-Michael Key; The Lion King), and some instruction from Princess Peach, the kingdom’s obstinate monarch (Anya Taylor-Joy; The Queen’s Gambit).

With Jack Black (Jumanji films) as Bowser, Seth Rogen (Neighbours franchise), Fred Armisen (Portlandia, Saturday Night Live), Kevin Michael Richardson (American Dad!, Family Guy), Sebastian Maniscalco (Green Book), and Charles Martinet (who narrated Mario and Luigi in the Super Mario games for more than ten years), The Super Mario Bros. Movie boasts an exceptional comedic cast.

The movie’s screenplay was written by Matthew Fogel (Minions: The Rise of Gru, The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part), and it is directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic (team members on Teen Titans Go! and Teen Titans Go! To the Movies.
