Is The Crowded Room Based on a True Story?
The Crowded Room is based on the non-fictional novel ‘The Minds of Billy Miligan’ by Daniel Keyes. The novel is about Billy Milligan who was the first person in the history of the United States who was acquitted of major crimes on the grounds of his pleading Dissociative Identity Disorder. It was during the trial that the many psychologists who had treated him diagnosed him with Dissociative Identity Disorder.
Billy Milligan was a unique person, to say the least. While undergoing treatment, psychologists claimed that Billy had over 14 personalities, of which a select few had committed the crimes. Billy underwent treatment for nearly 10 decades before he was released. There have been speculations that Billy had faked his diagnosis in order to get away with the crimes and avoid jail time. However, others seemed pleased with the verdict as the court became more mindful of considering mental health disorders in hearings. This case truly pushed the limits of the criminal psychiatry of the judiciary system.
The Plot of The Crowded Room
The Crowded Room is a psychological thriller that is set in Manhattan, one of the boroughs of New York City and is about Danny Sullivan. Danny Sullivan is arrested by the NYPD in 1979 after he is linked to a shooting. The case is assigned to Investigator Rya Goodwin who during a series of interrogations learns more about his past and sets out to uncover the truth about him. The show has definitely gotten the fans (especially the Tom Holland stans) on the edge of their seats, eagerly waiting for their many answers to be questioned.
The Cast of The Crowded Room
Everyone’s favorite Spiderman, Tom Holland plays the lead character, Danny Sullivan. We will be seeing Tom from a new perspective who is more often known for his roles of playing comfort characters and this for sure has gotten his fans excited. Amanda Seyfried plays the role of Rya Goodwin who is the investigator of the case and the other main character of the show.
