The first trailer for A24’s ‘Priscilla’ by Sofia Coppola has been released. The movie is based on the 1985 memoir ‘Elvis and Me’ by Priscilla Presley and Sandra Hamon. The movie follows the life of Priscilla and her relationship with iconic pop singer, Elvis Presley.
Caliee Spaeny and Jacob Elrodi will be playing the couple on screen. The movie marks the third collaboration of Director Sofia Coppola with A24. Previously, the couple was played on the big screen by Olivia DeJonge and Austin Butler in a 2022 biopic titled ‘Elvis’.
‘Elvis and Me’ is a 1985 biography written by Priscilla Presley along with Sandra Harmon. The book describes the life of Priscilla, her meeting with Elvis, their marriage, and the factors that led to their divorce.
Fans upset with another Elvis film – This is way too soon after ‘Elvis’
Elvis single-handedly defined pop culture music for years to come, however, there was more to his music than him. A24 hopefully will be focusing more on the relationship between Elvis and Priscilla. Fans were quick to point out that this movie was very similar, if not worse than Baz Luhrmann’s ‘Elvis’ which went on to make over $288 Million dollars worldwide, and even got Austin Butler an Academy Award Nomination for playing Elvis.

However, fans also pointed out the negative aspects of the relationship between them and were hoping that A24 actually focused on this and did not romanticize Priscilla and Elvis’s relationship.
They met when she was 14 and he was 24. Why are we glamorizing that relationship?

Yeah, I read the book years ago and was not impressed. It seem to have been written just for the money. Unless Coppola has added a lot to the story, and I mean A LOT, this too will be as disappointing as the book. Just being honest.

The trailer attracted quite a few Lana Del Rey stans as the video had a very similar aesthetic to her song ‘Summertime Sadness’. Some fans were even hoping for the background score to be by her or even for Lana Del Rey to star in the movie.

Who is Priscilla Presley?
Priscilla Presley was born on May 24, 1945, and was the first wife of Elvis Presley. Priscilla first met Elvis Presley in 1959 when she was 14 years old while Presley was stationed in Germany. A few years after their relationship, she moved to Graceland, Elvis’s Mansion in Memphis, Tennessee.
The couple got married in 1967 and had a daughter the following year. Primarily known as Elvis’s wife, she also starred in movies like ‘Love is Forever’ and ‘The Naked Gun’. Following the death of Elvis in 1977, she worked hard to preserve Elvis’s legacy, turning his mansion into a popular tourist attraction.
She also established Elvis Presley Enterprises, which manages Elvis-related businesses and merchandise. Currently, she has also ventured into her own line of business.
