Sasha Calle, the actress portraying Supergirl in DC’s latest film ‘The Flash,’ embraces the significance of the iconic “S” symbol on her suit. Just like Henry Cavill‘s Superman in the 2013 film ‘Man of Steel,’ Calle’s Supergirl recognizes the symbol as representing “hope” from her home planet of Krypton. Calle describes her character as an extraordinary superhero who embodies kindness, power, and unwavering hope in the face of any challenge.
In “The Flash,” a time-travel adventure currently playing in theaters, Barry Allen (played by Ezra Miller) finds himself trapped in a different Earth. He joins forces with his younger self and an older version of Batman (played by Michael Keaton). However, instead of locating his friend Superman, The Flash must come to the rescue of Supergirl, Superman’s cousin Kara Zor-El (portrayed by Sasha Calle), who is being held captive in a Siberian black site.
The Journey to Becoming Supergirl: Sasha Calle’s Manifestation and Preparation
Sasha Calle believes that she manifested her role as Supergirl in “The Flash.” Six years ago, after watching Gal Gadot in DC’s “Wonder Woman” and Charlize Theron in the spy thriller “Atomic Blonde,” Calle knew that acting in similar action-packed roles was her aspiration. She even placed pictures of both actresses on her vision board. A year later, Calle began boxing and practicing movements to better understand physicality and body control.
Although Supergirl wasn’t initially her ultimate dream role, Calle feels that it couldn’t have been any other character. She firmly believes that the opportunity to portray Supergirl was destined for her. As she embraced the role, it felt like her entire life had been leading her towards this momentous opportunity.
Sasha Calle’s Journey to Genoa City
Before landing her first major role on a long-standing soap opera in 2018, Sasha Calle faced financial difficulties and a period of uncertainty. Recalling those days, Calle describes herself as being completely broke and having to couch-surf while juggling multiple jobs. She took on various roles, including working at a gym’s front desk, hosting, and catering.
Portraying the character of Lola Rosales, a chef in Genoa City, on the soap opera proved to be a challenging yet rewarding experience for Calle. According to USA Today, she considers herself blessed to have appeared in over 270 episodes in just two and a half years. In 2020, Calle’s performance earned her a Daytime Emmy nomination.
Reflecting on her time on the show, Calle fondly remembers a particularly dramatic scene that she considers her “most soapy moment.” During a Valentine’s Day cabin trip, her character Lola was attacked, fell into a pool, and slipped into a coma. Adding to the drama, it was her brother’s ex-wife who mistook her for his current girlfriend due to wearing her coat. Calle describes the storyline as wild and exciting.
