One Piece anime will run for 8 more years, according to Luffy’s voice actor

Don't miss

Hardly any other anime is as popular as Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece. With over 1000 episodes, it is also one of the longest animes, which in turn is due to its popularity. But even the best anime has to come to an end one day. Anime like Naruto, Fairy Tail and Bleach have already done this and it is only a matter of time before the One Piece anime will suffer the same fate.

One Piece: Eiichiro Oda

Eiichiro Oda himself has commented on the duration of his manga several times. So it was said a few years ago that the manga would only run for about 5 years. Now that the manga is about to take a one-month hiatus to prepare for the final saga, Eiichiro Oda’s prophecy may well come true.

But it seems to be different with the anime – at least that’s what Luffy’s voice actress believes. In a new interview, she revealed that the series will continue for a good 7 to 8 years. Luffy’s voice actress Mayumi Tanaka revealed this in a new interview with Asahi.

In the interview, she was asked about her thoughts on her character and what she thought of the fact that the anime has been going on for over 2 decades. Tanaka lashed out and recounted an incident that happened in her 40s. So she is said to have injured her back and worried that she could lose her role as Luffy’s voice.

To be on the safe side, she also immediately declared her successor. She explained that Son Goku’s voice actor Masako Nozawa should take over the role of Luffy if anything ever happened to her.

Running time of the One Piece anime

In the interview, she was also asked how long she thinks the anime will run. The voice actress then explained that the anime was less than 10 years old. So her answer to the question was as follows:

“I expect the anime to end in 7-8 years. I don’t know the end of the story either, so I want to live on to the last episode of the series. If I should die along the way, I will ask someone who knows the ending of the story and say, “Tell me what happens at the end. I’m going to die now” (laughs). By the way, as for the One Piece treasure “One Piece” revealed at the end, I expected it to be “Friends” or “Bonds” or something like that. But Oda said to me, “It’s not like that. There’s a one-piece treasure “I’m looking forward to the ending the way it is.”
