Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2: Release Date, Rumors, Updates

Jujutsu Kaisen is an anime series that began airing in October 2020. Season 1 just ended last March, leaving a “to be continued” after the finale. Needless to say, this was not the last time we would meet Itadori and his friends!

This shonen anime with its weekly monster fights, its magical ninja school and its beautiful animations has quickly become a fan favorite!

The story of Jujutsu Kaisen revolves around Yuji Itadori. Yuuji is a teenager with strong ideals, a stubborn grandfather, and tons of misadventures that fill his whole being. Despite all this, he manages to keep a positive outlook on life. Yuuji also has exceptional physical strength that makes him stronger than the average human. One day, while witnessing a supernatural battle, Yuuji swallows an extremely cursed object: the finger of Sukuna, a former Jujutsu wizard and the current demon lord. As disgusting as it sounds, Yuuji surprisingly becomes the demon’s vessel and embarks on a journey to become Sukuna’s vessel by consuming his 20 fingers while destroying S-level curses along the way. Jujutsu Kaisen is poised to become a top modern anime!

The release date of Season 2 of Jujutsu Kaisen is confirmed for 2023! Also, a movie was released this winter in Japan!

The “super important” official announcement of the second season was made towards the end of a Jujutsu Kaisen 0 event held at 3:55 pm JST on February 12, 2022. To celebrate the success of Jujutsu Kaisen 0 at the box office, the movie JJK 0 was shown on the stage of Toho Cinemas Hibiya where the anime’s voice actors Junya Enoki, Megumi Ogata, Kana Hanazawa, Yuichi Nakamura and Sakura Takahiro were invited.

The second season will continue Yuji Itadori’s quest to find and consume Sukana’s 20 cursed fingers in the Shibuya incident arc.

A possible reason why we will have a movie instead of a full season could be due to the lack of original sources for season 2.

There are only 10 complete arcs, 7 of which have been adapted so far. If season 2 was 24 episodes long like season 1, it would adapt 6-7 arcs depending on the length of each arc. In order to keep the Jujutsu Kaisen craze alive, the creators chose to adapt Jujutsu Kaisen 0, a manga serving as a prequel to the main plot. The Jujutsu Kaisen movie would be a blockbuster, similar to the Demon Slayer movie, and a source of additional revenue for MAPPA. The original manga would also have time to produce new chapters for a Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 adaptation.

What to expect from Jujutsu Kaisen season 2?

Season 1 covered 64 chapters or 7 arcs of the manga. Jujutsu Kaisen Second Season will continue with chapter 65 and start with the arc of Gojo’s past.

We will get a glimpse of Gojo Satoru’s mysterious past! The infamous Shibuya plan that was hinted at in the second part of the first season will also be put into action.

Along with these explosive events, Itadori will also face the threat of extermination, possibly due to the overuse of Sukuna’s cursed fingers.
