Shoji Gatoh‘s light novel series, consisting of twelve full-length volumes, was released sequentially from September 18, 1998, to August 20, 2010. Notably, volumes 10 to 12 of the light novel series have not been adapted yet, leaving room for potential content in season 5. Throughout the anime’s history, each season has typically covered two or three volumes of the light novel series. As there are three remaining volumes, it appears there is enough source material to support Full Metal Panic Season 5.

Season 2 served as a companion series, not directly adapting the main storyline.
Season 3 continued the main plotline and covered volumes 4 and 5 of the light novel series.
