The first teaser trailer for the upcoming action spectacle “Furiosa: Mad Max Saga” was unveiled at the Comic-Con Experience in São Paulo.
It’s been eight years since Australian filmmaker George Miller took the world by surprise with his breathless non-stop chase across the post-apocalyptic wasteland in “Mad Max: Fury Road”. The end-time action film had a lengthy and grueling production of 17 years behind it before it was allowed to see the light of day. Nobody expected it to be a hit at the time, not even the stars Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron, who had fallen out. But Miller was to show everyone and caused jaws to drop in droves. To this day, “Mad Max: Fury Road” remains unbeaten in terms of vehicle action. Not even the “Fast & Furious” series comes close. After all, family can’t beat everything. Sometimes you just need blood and dust.
The reactivated fan base was all the more excited about the prequel “Furiosa: Mad Max Saga“, which, as the title suggests, will focus entirely on the story of young Furiosa’s development long before she becomes the emperor for the merciless Immortan Joe. According to Miller, he came up with the idea before filming began on “Fury Road”. It was Charlize Theron who demanded more than what was written about her character in the script in order to be able to fully immerse herself in the role. Miller met her request with a comprehensive backstory that was more or less a second screenplay. And he liked it so much that he decided to make it into a movie when he got the chance.
Eight years after “Fury Road”, the time has finally come and the long-awaited first teaser trailer for “Furiosa” was finally unveiled at the Comic-Con Experience (CCXP) in São Paulo, Brazil:
“What a day! What a beautiful day!”: Nothing else is likely to go through fans’ minds when they see this terrific teaser trailer, which shows exactly what made the previous films with Mel Gibson as Max Rockatansky, but above all “Fury Road”, so inimitable: endless dirty expanses coupled with even more swirling dust, dirt and the black exhaust fumes that herald death on wheels from afar. Add to this the distinctive image design by cinematographer Simon Duggan, who already turned “The Great Gatsby” and “300: Rise of an Empire” into visual eye candy. There is much beauty hidden beneath all the dust of the wasteland. Duggan took over for “Fury Road” cinematographer John Seale, who, unlike 78-year-old Miller, has already taken his well-deserved retirement.
“Furiosa: Mad Max Saga” shows stars in roles you wouldn’t expect them to play
“Furiosa: Mad Max Saga” is designed as a prequel to “Mad Max: Fury Road” and will cover a period of 15 years. Fans should therefore not expect another endless chase. This time period will show how the young Furiosa, who is abducted from the green place of many mothers 45 years after the fall of civilization, ultimately becomes the feared Emperor of Immortan Joe. But before that, her life belongs to the megalomaniac warlord Dementus. He terrorizes the survivors with his biker gang and unleashes a gigantic war over the citadel ruled by Immortan Joe.
In addition to Anya Taylor-Joy as Furiosa and Chris Hemsworth as the villain Dementus, Tom Burke, Angus Sampson, Daniel Webber, Nathan Jones, CJ Bloomfield, Rahel Romahn and Anne-Emilie Perol can also be seen in other roles. The release date for “Furiosa: Mad Max Saga” is May 22, 2024.
