Anyone who has seen Chris Hemsworth in action as Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe can witness how much fun the actor appears to be having, but the actor claims that his recent performance in the Mad Max: Furiosa prequel led to his greatest sense of professional satisfaction. The actor says that working with director George Miller was a collaborative process, which is what made the experience so delightful. He says he hopes to work with Miller again on future projects, but he also seems to hint that he wants to seek other creatives that generate a similar sensation. On May 24, 2024, Mad Max: Furiosa will be released in theatres.
The Mad Max universe, which Miller created in the late 1970s, gave rise to three commercially successful films with Mel Gibson in the title character before going dormant for nearly three decades, finally in 2015. With Fury Road, probably the strongest entry in the saga thus far, Miller transported us back to the arid wastelands of his post-apocalyptic universe. Fury Road featured Charlize Theron as Furiosa, a tough one-armed warrior who rapidly won over fans while letting Tom Hardy portray a new iteration of the legendary character. It didn’t take long for Miller to reveal that he was writing a prequel about Furiosa, with Anya Taylor-Joy replacing the original actress to play a younger version of the character.
What Chris Hemsworth have to say about George Miller’s “Furiosa”?
According to Collider, Chris Hemsworth said, “I recently wrapped up filming ‘Furiosa’ with George Miller; it’s part of the ‘Mad Max’ series. Often when I get a script, I can usually tell who the character is from the first and second readings. I experience an immediate, almost visceral sense of “Okay, I get it.”
I was in awe of the script when I read this two years before I began filming. I like George Miller, and this is the most beautiful thing I’ve ever read, yet I had no idea who this character was. We had approximately four weeks of rehearsals before we really got into it, and that’s when ideas started coming to me. And two weeks before the shoot, something happened.
Chris Hemsworth is playing a villain in the prequel, which is another reason to watch the film, even though we don’t know much about Furiosa’s plot just yet. Furiosa will provide Hemsworth with the chance to delve into a different aspect of acting as he typically plays heroic roles despite having a wide range of acting abilities. The antagonist Miller created for Furiosa is also a multi-layered, nuanced character who Hemsworth acknowledges was challenging to portray.
