The Hunger Games actress and director Elizabeth Banks was delighted to make a sequel to the movie Cocaine Bear. The 2023 thriller comedy was taken as one of the best movies of 2023. Cocaine Bear depicted an illegal cocaine delivery accidentally falling off a helicopter into a trekking area. A bear accidentally consumes a whole pack of it and attacks people, tears them apart, and hallucinates things that are funny and horrifying.
The Cocaine Bear sequel might be in the process
During an interviewing with Rolling Stones, the actress was asked about the sequel taking place anytime soon. She replied-“I loved how subversive, crazy, silly, and funny it was,” she said. “I loved surprising people with the cast. I don’t think anybody was expecting Margo Martindale, who’s 70 years old, to shoot that kid. We had a lot [of] fun, and if I got the opportunity to surprise the audience and delight myself again, I would take it.”
In another interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the Pitch Perfect actress revealed that the idea to make such a movie came to her during the pandemic. “I’ve been very fortunate to work across a lot of genres and things that appeal to me,” she said. “Cocaine Bear also came to me during the pandemic. We were all locked away, and I loved the sense of fun inside of it. It was what I wanted to see. And it had this message about mankind’s culpability in nature’s demise. It spoke to me on a lot of levels.”
Apart from Cocaine Bear, Banks talked about her latest movie The Beanie Bubble. The film explores the Beanie Baby craze that swept across America in the 1990s and early 2000s, providing an in-depth analysis of how the cultural phenomenon emerged.
She expressed her belief that recent projects like The Beanie Bubble, Tetris on AppleTV+, and Greta Gerwig’s Barbie reflect a growing trend of nostalgia. People are now producing films and TV shows that delve into the cultural touchstones of their formative years.
Banks wanted to helm Thor- Ragnarok
This might come as a surprise but Elizabeth Banks pitched Marvel to let her direct the Chris Hemsworth starring Thor but was never called after it. Upon asking this she said- “In terms of characters that I love in Marvel, that’s the character that I would have loved to take on. I never had a pitch or a meeting about Thor. And, yeah, if it was the right character and a great idea, I would love to direct a superhero movie. My door’s open to anything.”
