Countless fan theories are increasing the excitement for “Avengers: Secret Wars”. A Marvel star has now commented on fan speculation as to whether he will also be involved in the film.
The Marvel rumor mill is currently in full swing: After Hugh Jackman’s return as Wolverine for “Deadpool 3” was confirmed, fans are speculating about all the other characters they could see again. According to reports, “Deadpool 3” will also see Jennifer Garner as Elektra and Ben Affleck as Daredevil reprise their former Marvel roles. With all of this, the possibilities seem almost limitless that all of the Marvel stars could return as their characters, even though they played them outside of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
Another Marvel and “X-Men” alumni whose return is being speculated about on the internet is Professor X actor Patrick Stewart. ‘Logan’ was actually supposed to be a farewell for Stewart and his incarnation of Professor X in 2017, but he slipped back into his old role in ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ in 2022. However, he played a different version of Professor X than the one we know from the previous ‘X-Men’ films. Therefore, it cannot be ruled out that he could appear once again as a variant of Professor X.
In an interview with Etalk, the actor addressed the rumor of him appearing as Professor X in the sixth “Avengers” film, “Avengers: Secret Wars” (via ScrenRant). In the interview, he said the following:
“I can’t dispel [the rumor] because it’s not a fact, for or against. It’s a possibility. Hugh Jackman and I saw ‘Logan’ as our farewell because I died in that movie. However, I’ve been told that I’ve actually died several times. […] Yeah, if you know that [that it’s a possibility,] you might get lucky…”
Patrick Stewart could return earlier in the MCU
According to a rumor, Deadpool and Wolverine have a mission to save the Avengers in “Avengers: Secret Wars”. A wide variety of characters from the multiverse are set to meet in the process – including the X-Men, which is why an appearance by Stewart would not be unlikely.
However, we could see the actor as Professor X again sooner: Fans are speculating whether he could also appear alongside Wolverine in “Deadpool 3”. He has also given similarly suspicious hints about this rumor in the past. When asked by ComicBook.com about a possible appearance in “Deadpool 3”, he replied: “I was told to stand by. I don’t know anything more than that, honestly.”
Whether Stewart and possibly even Magneto actor Ian McKellen will be seen in Deadpool’s first MCU appearance remains to be seen. “Deadpool 3” opens in cinemas on July 24, 2024. We’ll have to wait until May 6, 2027 for the release of “Avengers: Secret Wars”. In the meantime, you can stream all “Deadpool” and “X-Men” films as well as all other Marvel works with a Disney+ membership.
