In Japan, a woman tried to wrap an otaku around her finger and win him over to her religious community. We summarize the funny anecdote, which reminds a bit of “KonoSuba“.
Cult as in “KonoSuba”
So the man told in an online post that he was just standing in front of an anime store in Ikebukuro when he was approached by a woman. The conversation was rather one-sided, as the woman spoke of her passion for anime and he himself barely got a word in edgewise. After a few minutes, the woman asked him if he would like to go out to eat with her.
The dream of every otaku, but unfortunately he had to decline the woman’s invitation, because he had an appointment with a friend and was waiting for him there. The woman was disappointed, but gave him a brochure of her religious community as a farewell gift.
Of course, his story generated quite a bit of attention, especially because an otaku was singled out as a target. Understandably, after all, otaku are often rather reclusive and often find it difficult to turn away a woman. But that’s not the only reason the story went viral.
Because in otaku circles, one was clearly reminded of a funny scene from “KonoSuba”, in which the Axis cult aggressively tries to convert tourists for themselves and does not shy away from dirty tricks to do so. Exploiting the pure heart of an otaku is definitely dirty.
“KonoSuba” is based on the light novel of the same name by Natsume Akatsuki, which was published in Japan from October 2013 to May 2020 with illustrations by Kurone Mishima.
