Filming on Andor Season 2 is set to start before the end of 2022, according to screenwriter Tony Gilroy. When can we expect the final chapter of Cassian Andor’s story, with the ending that ties directly into “Rogue One”?
- After 2 seasons it’s over! “Andor” will tie directly into “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” with the season 2 finale.
- Now, screenwriter and showrunner Tony Gilroy revealed that work on the second half of Cassian’s story will begin soon.
- One of the new locations will be a familiar planet from the original trilogy.
“Star Wars” series such as “The Mandalorian” or “The Book of Boba Fett” partly relied on new characters, but also brought back familiar fan favorites time and again. Andor” also features several reunions, for example with Cassian Andor himself, but also with other characters from “Rogue One,” such as Senator Mon Mothma or Saw Gerrera.
Since September 21, the new “Star Wars” series “Andor” has been thrilling numerous “Star Wars” and series fans every week on Disney+.
The series is a prequel to the feature film “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” and revolves around the rebel Cassian Andor, who is once again portrayed by Diego Luna. Showrunner Tony Gilroy has now confirmed that filming for the second season of “Andor” will begin this year, on November 21, 2022 to be precise.
Andor Season 2: Release Date
Unfortunately, the total of 12 episodes of the 2nd season of “Andor” is not expected before 2024. There is no exact release date yet, but filming and post-production are expected to take at least a year.
Should these be completed quickly and no major problems arise during post-production, spring 2024 would be a realistic start date for “Andor” Season 2.
Andor Season 2: Plot
Gilroy revealed that Season 2 will be divided into four blocks. Three episodes always represent a year, so we have a total of four blocks of three: 4 years in the Star Wars world of “Andor”! Thus, many more major events should fall in Season 2 and the Rebellion, and Cassian’s connection to it, should pick up speed ever faster.
Also, in season 2, the rebellion should show itself more openly and get more and more supporters. After all, in “Rogue One” the Rebellion is already fighting open battles with the Empire. It will be interesting to see how Luthen Rael and Mon Mothma gather more and more supporters for their uprising.
Andor Season 2: Cast
In addition to the main character and namesake of the series Diego Luna as Cassian Andor, season 2 will also feature many other familiar faces. Adria Arjona, Denise Gough, Genevieve O’Riley, Stellan Skarsgard, Fiona Shaw and Kyle Soller are already confirmed.
Whether we will also see the stormy and merciless rebel leader Saw Gerrera, embodied by Forest Whitaker, again is still unknown. However, since he plays a central role in “Rogue One,” this is more than likely.
Adria Arjona as Cassian’s sister could also return, giving us more insight into his past and perhaps new motivation in the fight against the Empire.
Andor Season 2: Production
For the script of the 2nd season of “Andor” Gilroy got strong support from his brother Dan Gilroy as well as from Beau Willimon and newcomervTom Bissell. He also revealed that season 2, in addition to new locations, will take us to Yavin, the site of the decisive battle in “Return of the Jedi Knights” against the Empire.
Over the course of the next year, more and more clues about storylines for Season 2 of “Andor” should come out. Filming should take place on various sets and studios in the UK, just as it did for Season 1. Dorset, Buckinghamshire, Essex and even Scotland are on the location list.
