“Young Wallander” is a Netflix crime series based on Henning Mankell’s Inspector Kurt Wallander. It follows a modern Wallander investigating his first gripping case, exploring his formative experiences as a young police officer.
The series chose to modernize the iconic detective instead of creating a prequel. This decision enabled relevant social commentary, as in Mankell‘s original Wallander. The initial season premiered in September 2020, followed by the second season “Killer’s Shadow” on February 17, 2022. Reviews for the series were mixed. Details about the show’s future are outlined below.
Young wallander season 3 Release Date
Netflix has decided to cancel “Young Wallander,” with no intentions of producing a third season. The show’s viewership numbers fell short of Netflix’s expectations. In the US, the second season only ranked in the top ten for three days before falling off the list. In the UK, it managed to stay in the top ten for a more extended period, around 10 days, before dropping off. These statistics suggest that the show struggled to perform well in English-speaking countries.
Interestingly, “Young Wallander” found success in certain Nordic regions like Sweden, Denmark, and Norway, as well as in central European countries like Germany, Austria, and The Netherlands.
Young Wallander Season 3 Plot
In the second season, Wallander rejoins the Major Crimes Unit and is assigned a seemingly straightforward hit-and-run case. However, he discovers the victim’s connection to an unsolved murder from eight years ago, handled by Frida Rask. Suspicious of the situation, Wallander begins his own investigation and uncovers that the incident was indeed a murder. He successfully apprehends the murderer, and the second season concludes without any unresolved plotlines. If a new season were to happen, it would likely be a fresh beginning inspired by the numerous works of Mankell novels.
