The Spiderwick Chronicles: Storyline
Together with their mother, the twins Jared and Simon and their older sister Mallory move into the old and remote estate of their distant uncle Arthur Spiderwick. The Grace children quickly notice that things are not going right here. Again and again there are strange occurrences. For example, things disappear, things fall over inexplicably or strange noises are heard.
When Jared then discovers the hidden Spiderwick library in the attic, it becomes clear that this is not just the blooming imagination of the children. It also contains the “Manual of Magical Creatures” written by Arthur. Despite all warnings, Jared uses it to open the way to the realm of gnomes, fairies, gnomes and goblins. Now the whole family is involved in an exciting adventure, in which the fantastic magical world often becomes more real than they probably would like.
The Spiderwick Chronicles: Cast and production
Disney has already announced a few of the cast members of “The Spiderwick Chronicles.” Young actors Lyon Daniels and Noah Cottrell (“Skyscraper”) will take on twin brothers Jared and Simon in the live action series.
Jared is a smart and impulsive kid who will go on any adventure. Every now and then, however, he can’t keep his temper in check and gives in to real tantrums.
Simon, on the other hand, is more rational and always acts thoughtfully. He also loves animals. Although the two brothers are complete opposites, they have not been able to live without each other since birth and have even developed a secret “twin language”. In recent times, however, the differences between the brothers begin to grow and threaten to drive a wedge in the intimate relationship.
The roles of the rest of the Grace family have now been cast as well. Mychala Lee (“Truth Be Told”) will play the older sister of Jared and Simon, Mallory Grace, and Joy Bryant (“For Life”) takes over the part of Helen Grace.
Furthermore, Christian Slater (“Mr. Robot”) has been cast as the main villain of the first season. Slater will play Mulgarath, an extremely dangerous ogre. The man-eating monster tries to get hold of Arthur Spiderwick’s manual by any means necessary in order to use it for his own cunning plans.
Brand new, Disney has now also announced that actresses Momona Tamada and Alyvia Alyn Lind (“Chucky”) will also have recurring roles in the series.
Tamada, known from the Netflix series “The Babysitters Club,” will play Emiko. Teenage Emiko is a pathological liar and meets Jared during group therapy. Since their first meeting, she has a special interest in the boy. Lind, on the other hand, takes on the character Calliope, who appears to be a normal girl from the outside, but is actually a fetch and serves Mulgarath.
Among others, Kat Coiro will direct the first two episodes in the first season. Aron Eli Coleite (“Locke & Key”) is showrunner and will also, along with Coiro executive produce. Novelists Holly Black and Tony DiTerlizzi are also on board as producers of the series.
