Last May when Netflix premiered its legal-drama series The Lincoln Lawyer, based on a series of novels by Michael Connelly, audiences were hooked. After all, who wouldn’t love the comeback story of Mickey Haller (played by Manuel Garcia-Rulfo), a courtroom-savvy LA criminal defense lawyer working out of the back seat of his Lincoln. The show skyrocketed to Netflix’s Top 10 in 90 countries, and the appearance of a mysterious tattooed man in the last episode left fans craving more.
So, will there be The Lincoln Lawyer Season 2?
Good news! Only a month after its May 2022 debut, Netflix announced The Lincoln Lawyer would return for season 2. While the 2023 release date has yet to be announced, production is in the works. Here’s what we do know about the upcoming season.
What Will The Lincoln Lawyer Season 2 Be About?
Like the first season, The Lincoln Lawyer season 2 will be based on one of the six novels in Connelly’s Lincoln Lawyer series, in this case, book 4, The Fifth Witness. In that storyline, Mickey has shifted to a foreclosure defense lawyer to make ends meet… until one of his clients is accused of murder. However, we do expect some changes in the Netflix adaptation to modernize the story, as was the case in season 1, which was based on book 2, The Brass Verdict.
Spoiler: Given the season 1 finale, it seems likely the sub-plot concerning who really killed Martha Renteria will continue in season 2 following the overturning of Jesus Menendez’s (Mickey’s client) conviction for the crime in the first season. Fun fact: This plot thread actually comes from book 1 of Connelly’s Lincoln Lawyer series.

Who Is In The Lincoln Lawyer Season 2 Cast?
No surprise, star and fan-favorite Manuel Garcia-Rulfo will reprise his role as Mickey in The Lincoln Lawyer season 2. Joining him are co-stars Neve Campbell (as Maggie McPherson, Mickey’s first ex-wife, mother of their shared daughter Hayley, and a prosecutor who sometimes finds herself professionally at odds with her ex) and Becki Newton (as Lorna Crane, Mickey’s legal assistant/office manager and ex-wife number two).
Jazz Raycole will return as Izzy Letts, Mickey’s client-turned-driver, while Angus Sampson, who plays Cisco, Mickey’s PI and Lorna’s fiancé, will surely have lots of on-screen drama this season given the heavy hints near the end of season 1 that his past as a member of the Road Saints biker gang is coming back to haunt him.
Netflix teased that more season 1 actor will appear throughout the second season’s 10 episodes, but we’re not yet sure who.
And with a new plot line comes new characters. Once Upon a Time’s Lana Parrilla and Chicago Med’s Yaya DaCosta will join the cast of The Lincoln Lawyer season 2, reported Netflix’s fan site Tudum last October. Parrilla will portray Lisa Trammell, a local chef and restauranteur at odds with a predatory real estate developer (spoiler: she’s Mickey’s new client). DaCosta takes on the role of a ruthless prosecutor who promises to be a formidable courtroom opponent for Mickey.
Matt Angel (NCIS, S.W.A.T., and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow) will play true crime podcaster, Henry Dahl, Deadline reports. Apparently, Mickey doubts Henry’s motives for being interested in the case. Hmmm, could Henry be a wolf in hipster clothing?
When will The Lincoln Lawyer season 2 premiere?
So far, Netflix has been mum on the official release date. However, we do know production began in October 2022. On the 31st, Connelly, who also serves as one of the series’ executive producers, posted on Instagram sharing an image of a director’s chair emblazoned with the series logo. “From the set of The Lincoln Lawyer season 2: I’m excited to report we have started filming season 2. It’s so nice to be back on the set again,” he wrote.
Production is already wrapped this March, reported the website What’s on Netflix, which estimates a fall 2023 release date (summer if we’re lucky).
Fans tried to cajole more hints about the release date out of Garcia-Rulfo on Instagram when, on Christmas Day, he posted a hunky photo of himself standing on a balcony with a city view. “When is The Lincoln Lawyer coming back?” asked one fan. “Feliz Navidad. Merry Christmas. Lincoln Lawyer season 2 fast please most handsome man!” politely urged another.
But if the show’s main star is privy to any release date details, it appears he’s keeping it to himself. In the meantime, if you haven’t watched season 1 yet, it’s time for a binge.
