Good news for “The Boys” fans: A fourth season of the Amazon Prime series was already announced during Season 3. But when can we expect the new episodes, and what will happen in The Boys Season 4?
The third season of “The Boys” ended with a strong finale that brought some storylines to a close. However, at the same time still leaves plenty of room for another season – which is no wonder, after all, Amazon has already officially announced the fourth season at the beginning of June 2022. But when and how will it continue?
The Boys Season 4: Release date
The question of when is relatively easy to answer, even though no official release date has been set yet: In an interview with Collider, Butcher actor Karl Urban revealed that filming on The Boys Season 4 is scheduled to begin on August 22, 2022.
Looking at the previous seasons, filming is expected to take at least four months, which means it will probably be completed by the end of 2022 or the beginning of 2023. After that, a series like “The Boys” still requires extensive post-production (editing, effects, music), which took nine to ten months for each of the previous seasons. We, therefore, guess a release of “The Boys” season 4 at the end of 2023.
The Boys Season 4: What Happens Next?
In season 3, The Boys have come a bit closer to their goal of ridding the world of the Supes and bringing down the Vought corporation, but the biggest hurdle is still not cleared: Homelander (Antony Starr), despite all his misdeeds, has the support of a large part of the American population on his side, as the last scene of the season once again impressively shows.
And he has his son Ryan (Cameron Crovetti), who is almost as strong as his father and should present the Boys with major problems. If only because Ryan is still a kid and Butcher (Karl Urban) won’t murder his foster son in cold blood.
After all, Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles) is still alive and in the grip of Grace Mallory (Laila Robins). So the plan to use Soldier Boy’s abilities against Homelander isn’t completely off the table. The only question that remains is how to control Soldier Boy.
Victoria Neuman Makes Career
Add to that another red-hot supe that the Boys now have to contend with: Victoria Neuman (Claudia Doumit) makes a big career move in the Season 3 finale thanks to her deal with Homelander and is expected to become Vice President of the United States in The Boys Season 4.
As Butcher says, this puts her squarely in the Boys’ sights. Still, Neuman’s head-exploding abilities not only make her a powerful adversary but she’s now maneuvered herself into influential political office. So getting rid of her shouldn’t be easy.
Maybe the information about Neuman’s past that Hughie (Jack Quaid) brought to light in season 3 could help? Or possibly even ex-Vought boss Stan Edgar (Giancarlo Esposito) joining forces with the Boys to take out his adopted daughter Victoria Neuman. After all, she dumped him stone-cold in Season 3.
Weakened Teams
One thing is clear: Between Seasons 3 and 4, there shouldn’t be another big-time jump like after Season 2. After all, Butcher learns that he only has a good year to live because of the side effects of V-24.
Maybe this is even a sign that “The Boys” is slowly coming to an end? In any case, there won’t be too many seasons left – unless they pull a miracle cure out of the hat. It’s hard to imagine “The Boys” without Billy Butcher.
But also, the Supes are weakened. Of the Seven, only Homelander, A-Train (Jessie T. Usher), and The Deep (Chace Crawford) are left, and there really aren’t any more powerful replacements out there. Nevertheless, we can certainly look forward to some new Supes and their abilities in “The Boys” season 4.
