The paranormal high school murder mystery School Spirits ended its first season on Paramount+ with a jaw-dropping twist. But fans of Maddie and her ghostly pals can breathe a sigh of relief, because the show is coming back for more! Here’s what we know so far about School Spirits season 2.
Is School Spirits Season 2 Confirmed?
Paramount confirmed that School Spirits had been greenlit for a second season in June 2023.
But don’t hold your breath for the next chapter of Maddie’s adventures. According to Paramount, the new season won’t start filming until 2024. That means that the earliest we can hope to see season 2 would be sometime in 2025.
Adding to the uncertainty is the fact that the Writers Guild of America was on strike for several months in 2023, and SAG-AFTRA is still negotiating with the studio executives represented by the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers. It’s unclear whether School Spirits‘ production schedule considered those factors when the renewal was announced.
School Spirits season 2: What to expect
The first season of School Spirits ended with a shocking revelation: Maddie, the ghost who was trying to solve her own murder, was actually alive. Janet, another student from the support group led by Mr. Martin, took over her body. The second season will likely follow Maddie’s attempt to reclaim her body and identity, while Simon, her best friend, believes she is gone for good.
But School Spirits is not just a supernatural drama or a whodunit. The show also explores themes of loss and recovery, and how the characters cope with their personal struggles. The second season will hopefully continue to delve into the complex emotions and motivations of the characters, as well as the secrets they hide.
School Spirits season 2: Who will be back
The cast for the second season has not been confirmed yet, but we can make some educated guesses. Peyton List will probably return as Maddie, along with Kristian Ventura as Simon, Kiara Pichardo as Nicole, and Maria Dizzia as Sandra, Maddie’s mother.
The ghosts from the support group are also likely to come back, with Milo Manheim as Wally, Sarah Yarkin as Rhonda, Nick Pugliese as Charley, and Josh Zuckerman as Mr. Martin.
We will update you with more information as soon as we have it.
