Sherwood Season 2: Everything You Need To Know

Don't miss

It first appeared that the series would be over, but Sherwood has successfully shown that there is more to it than meets the eye. Will Sherwood season 2 exist? Let’s find out!

Based on a true event and written by Quiz’s James Graham, the dark detective thriller has taken on a life of its own separate from its source material. The series will return for another season following its suspenseful first season.

So what lays ahead for Ian St Clair and the rest of the picturesque former mining town?

Here is what we currently know.

It is unlikely that we will see the new episodes any time soon because filming has not yet begun. The six brand-new, one-hour episodes, all of which will be written by James Graham once more, have been made public.

Graham said in the announcement: “These stories are from my home, and I want to specifically express thanks to my community for whom I know these issues can be challenging, but – I think – necessary ones to address. I’ve been so profoundly moved by the response to Sherwood.

“It has been an honor of my life to give voice and character to a place I love, the East Midlands, and other former “Red Wall” regions like it. I can’t wait to show audiences more. It’s a county of amazing stories and legends, past and present.”

It is expected that the new episodes will be available by the end of next year because filming is scheduled to begin in 2023.

Sherwood Season 2 Cast: Who’s In It?

The cast for the forthcoming episodes has not yet been determined. And while a fresh major case is probably in store, it’s also feasible that certain recurring themes will bind the two series together.

The most likely possibilities for this would be David Morrissey, who plays police DI Ian St. Clair, and Robert Glenister, who plays DI Kevin Salisbury.

With this in mind, Clare Holman, who plays St Clair’s wife Helen, will also likely be back alongside him.

Other possible benefits include:

• Lorraine Ashbourne (Daphne Sparrow)
• Philip Jackson (Mickey Sparrow)
• Claire Rushbrook (Cathy Rowley)

Sherwood Season 2 Plot: What Will Happen?

We currently don’t have any official information on the second season of Sherwood’s new story.

In a joint statement accompanying the renewal announcement, executive producers Juliette Howell and Tessa Ross of House Productions teased: “No single place is defined by just one story, and it was always our intention, and hope, that James would get to return to the greater community of Nottinghamshire to build on the world created in Sherwood and explore more characters and their stories, delving into the issues and relationships that have long shaped them.”

With the characters we have already met, there are undoubtedly threads to be pulled. For starters Ian St Clair’s wife was discovered to be in the Witness Protection Programme after she and her mother fled her violent father. Could that potentially get out to the public?

Furthermore, a few spy police are still at large. How long will they be able to conceal who they really are? Or do more exist than we realize?

Right now, anything goes, but we’re confident that whichever way we go, we’ll be hooked.
