Severance Season 2 Confirmed! But what’s the release date? Here’s everything

Severance Season 2: Apple TV+ renews the workplace thriller with new cast members and a darker tone.

Don't miss

The hit TV series Severance is coming back for a second season, and fans are eager to know more about the cast and the release date.

The show, created by Dan Erickson and directed by Ben Stiller, was a huge success for Apple TV+, earning 14 Emmy nominations for its first season. The show follows the employees of a company that offers a procedure to erase traumatic memories from their workers.

Apple announced the renewal of Severance in April with a video that teased “You’ll feel like you never left.”

Is Severance season 2 confirmed?

Yes, it is! Apple TV+ announced in April 2022 that the twisted workplace thriller will return for another season. Director and executive producer Ben Stiller said,

“We are thrilled by the positive feedback from the fans who love the show—and the amazing fan engagement. It has been a long journey to bring Severance to the screen. I first read Dan’s pilot more than five years ago. It has always been a story with multiple seasons in mind, and I’m really glad we get to continue it.”

Matt Cherniss, who’s the head of programming for Apple TV+, also said,

“Severance has created a world that‘s both captivating and intriguing as viewers around the world can’t get enough of these complex characters. We’re excited to explore more of this unique world and reveal more secrets of Lumon in season two.”

Severance Season 2: Production Status

Severance Season 2 was supposed to start filming in October 2022 but was pushed back to January 2023 due to script issues and creative differences between the showrunners. According to a report by Puck, co-showrunners Dan Erickson and Mark Friedman were not on speaking terms and had conflicting visions for the show. They were later joined by House of Cards creator Beau Willimon, who was brought in to help with the writing process.

However, despite resolving their internal problems, Severance Season 2 faced another major obstacle: the writers strike. On May 2, 2023, the Writers Guild of America (WGA) went on strike after failing to reach a new contract with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP). The strike affected many shows across the industry, including Severance.

On May 8, 2023, Severance Season 2 shut down production in New York due to picketing by WGA members and other unions. Teamsters refused to cross the picket line and deliver equipment and supplies to the set. Currently, there is no indication of when production will resume or how long the strike will last.

With the dramatic cliffhanger ending of the first season and the show’s rising popularity, it wouldn’t be shocking if the cast expands to include fresh faces and intriguing new characters in the upcoming season.

Severance Season 2: Plot and Storyline

Severance Season 1 revealed a dystopian world where the Lumon Corporation used the Severance technology to separate employees’ memories and personalities. The innies gradually grew more curious and resentful of the system they were a part of.

The final episode of Season 1 saw the innies gain control of themselves outside the office using the Overtime Contingency built into their Lumon Severance Chips. The characters of Severance have left an indelible mark on their world, with their bold and sometimes reckless actions. Mark’s decision to reveal the abuse within Lumon to his sister Devon will have far-reaching consequences, and it remains to be seen if it will bring about change or further chaos. Helly’s public denouncement of Severance at a Lumon gala was a daring move that will undoubtedly draw attention to the corporation’s corrupt practices.

Meanwhile, Irving’s attempt to break free from the system entirely is risky and could result in dire consequences for himself and those he cares about. These actions have set the stage for an explosive second season of Severance, full of intrigue and uncertainty.

Severance Season 2 Plot: Speculation

It’s safe to say that the first season of Severance was a total head-scratcher, leaving us with more questions than answers. So, it’s anyone’s guess where season 2 will take us. But fear not, as the season 1 finale gave us a few breadcrumbs to follow.

For starters, it turns out Mark’s wife, who he thought was dead, is alive and kicking. Talk about a major plot twist! Seeing how this revelation plays out will be interesting, especially given the employees’ memory-wiping procedure.

And let’s not forget about Helly’s disastrous party appearance, which is sure to have consequences in season 2. Then there’s Irving’s discovery about Burt, but who knows how that will factor into the story with all the memory-wiping shenanigans.

We can count on plenty of spine-chilling twists and tense arcs, as teased by Patricia Arquette, who plays Lumon boss Harmony Cobel. She warned fans to “be very scared,” and we’re inclined to listen.

We’re also dying to know what happened to Dylan, who didn’t exactly leave season 1 in the best shape. Fortunately, we do know he’ll be back in season 2, and the creators have promised to address some of the questions left unanswered in the first season.

But with the show’s growing popularity comes the need for secrecy. Adam Scott revealed that the cast and crew now have to use code words and secret scripts to keep the plot under wraps. It may seem ridiculous, but it’s all part of the game. And let’s be real, we can’t wait to see what season 2 has in store for us.

Severance Season 2: Filming Dates

Severance season 2 is no easy feat – it takes time, effort, and an intricate shooting schedule to make a show of this caliber. As you’d expect from such a critically acclaimed series, the showrunners have taken their time to ensure everything is perfect.

According to Production Weekly, filming for season 2 began in October of 2022 and will continue until May of 2023. That’s right, you’ll have to be patient for seven months before indulging in the latest installment of Severance. A report by Variety Insights in late October further confirmed that filming has indeed begun.

Adam Scott, who plays Mark Scout, revealed in an interview with SiriusXM that the crew was gearing up for the start of filming in August 2022. He also mentioned that the team was working hard behind the scenes to make sure everything was set up perfectly for the shoot. However, he couldn’t reveal any more information, joking that he might get tranquilized if he did.

It’s clear that Severance season 2 is a labor of love, and with so much hard work going into its production, we can expect nothing less than an outstanding show. But with such a lengthy filming period, it’s safe to say that the release date may still be a while off. Just remember, good things come to those who wait.

When to expect Severance season 2?

We’re all dying to see what happens next in this thrilling and darkly comedic series. But don’t worry, we have some clues to help you out. Apple has not announced an official release date for Severance season 2 yet, but we can make some educated guesses based on the production schedule.

According to reports, the second season was almost done filming in New York when the writers’ strike began in October 2023, forcing the show to halt production. The actors’ strike, which followed shortly after, also affected the show’s schedule.

The good news is that both strikes have been resolved, and the show can resume filming as soon as possible. However, there is no official word yet on when that will happen, or when the second season will be released.

One source of uncertainty is the alleged conflict between the show’s creators, Dan Erickson and Ben Stiller. A recent report by Puck claimed that Erickson and Stiller had a falling out over creative differences, and that Stiller was planning to leave the show after the first season.

Apple TV+ has not commented on this rumor. However, given the positive buzz around the show and its star-studded cast, it seems likely that the streaming service will want to continue the story.

If everything goes smoothly, fans can expect to see Severance Season 2 sometime in 2024.
