Monkey King is Netflix’s latest animated movie based on the famous Chinese non-fictional character with the same name. The movie which is being animated by ReelFX, recently dropped the first trailer for the movie.
Jimmy O. Yang voices the Monkey King. Along with Jimmy, Bowen Yang, Jo Koy, Jolie Hoang-Rappaport, Stephanie Hsu, and BD Wong, also voice their respective characters. Anthony Stacchi directs the movie, while Steve Bencich and Ron J. Friedman have written the script.
Inspired by a Chinese tale, the action-packed comedy follows a Monkey, fighting demons, dragons, and gods with his magical fighting stick. The Monkey King will be available on Netflix on August 18.
The Monkey King – First Look
In Netflix’s version of the tale, the movie follows the journey of a monkey and his magical fighting stick on an epic quest to slay over 100 demons to prove to the Immortal gods that he is worthy of joining them.
With little support from his monkey brethren, he leaves his home to defeat the demons. On one of his adventures, he accepts the challenge of protecting a human village from a fiery demon known as the Red Girl but ends up destroying the village.
He garners the attention of Lin, a villager who requests to join the Monkey King on his adventures but he declines. Lin responds by saying that she wants to do big things like him and the Monkey obliges.
As the journey continues, Lin makes the Monkey King realize that defeating 100 demons is not the answer to his questions, maybe, proving yourself worthy and helping others is. It will be exciting to see how the Monkey King fights his biggest challenger yet, his ego.
The trailer for the movie has beautiful visuals which perfectly encapsulate the feeling of Ancient China. The small glimpse of his fight with the Dragon King has excited the fans for sure. The trailer showcases all the action in Monkey King’s adventures with his trusted sidekick, Stick.
Who is Jimmy O. Yang?
Jimmy O. Yang is a popular actor, stand-up comedian, and writer. Jimmy is best known for his role as Jian-Yang in the HBO comedy series, Silicon Valley. He has also starred in Netflix projects like Space Force and Love Hard.
Apart from acting, he has several stand-up specials on multiple platforms. Jimmy is also the author of ‘How to American: An Immigrant’s Guide to Disappointing Your Parents’.
