I’m A Virgo Review: Amazon Prime’s new coming-of-age drama is a treat to watch

Don't miss

I’m A Virgo: Five years have passed since “Sorry to Bother You,” the riotous debut film from director BootsAcc Riley, dominated discussion. “Sorry to Bother You” popularized Riley’s originality and contributions to Afro-Surrealism with a delicate touch that skillfully combined comedy with biting social critique. He continues to draw from his arsenal of absurdism and humour in his new Prime Video series, “I’m a Virgo,” demonstrating that the approach he used in that movie was not a one-and-done but rather a jumping-off point.

The audience has been keen to find out how I’m A Virgo has fared ever since the first season of the Prime Video series was released by the streaming service. Numerous critical topics, such as social injustice, discrimination, abuse of power, and societal hypocrisy, are discussed in the novel. Since the main character and his new companions are observing all of these topics, it has a greater emotional impact on viewers. Let’s find out if this new coming-of-age series is worth your attention.

What the new I’m A Virgo series is all about?

The plot of I’m a Virgo challenges all societal conventions established by society’s legislators and leads the spectator on a voyage of self-reflection. It explores the world’s seriously faulty power structure, which constantly favours the oppressor and leaves the downtrodden with nothing.

The series tells the inspiring tale of Cootie, a 19-year-old man who is 13 feet tall. The story begins when Cootie decides to venture outside after being kept in a safe place by his adoptive parents out of concern that his unusual height will land him in trouble.

Cootie is seen discovering new things and creating memories throughout the entire series. He begins to discover his actual identity and develop a fresh perspective on the world as a result of these encounters.

The authors, notably the series’ creator Boots Riley, did an amazing job of crafting the series in such an absurdist yet meaningful way that the viewer would be able to relate to the narrative. It was written from Cootie’s perspective, providing readers with a novel perspective on well-known social aspects and leading them to reevaluate their own convictions.

The Excellent direction of the series makes it worth watching

I’m a Virgo who stands out in a world of coming-of-age films and television shows because of the way it is directed. The series creator and director, Riley, has done a fantastic job of presenting everything in a way that seems motivating and significant.

Director Riley has done an excellent job of capturing all the intricate details of the plot in a way that is both creative and straightforward. Every scene focuses on the central character’s coming to terms with social inequality and how, through time, people have grown to accept injustice as a part of life, according to Sportskeeda.

Actor Jharrel Jerome’s performance raises the bar of the series

Without a doubt, actor Jharrel Jerome is the ideal choice to portray Cootie, the main character of I’m a Virgo. The young actor does a great job on screen in conveying the character’s imposing demeanour and distinct perspective on things around him.

The sequences where he fights with Jones, when he joins Felix and other people to vandalize the power plant, when he confronts his adoptive parents for keeping him in the dark for so long, and others are very compelling to watch. Jharrel Jerome’s dynamic portrayal of Cootie is one of the show’s most notable moments as a result.
