David Corenswet is said to play the New Superman in DC’s new universe under James Gunn and Peter Safran. James Gunn has finally ended his search for his new Superman role in ‘Superman:Legacy’. Rachel Brosnahan will also star alongside David Corenswet.
David Corenswet will be replacing fan-favorite Henry Cavill as the new Superman. Henry Cavill made his debut as Superman in Zack Snyder’s ‘Man of Steel’ and also in ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice’, and ‘Justice League’, before making his final cameo in ‘Black Adam’.
This comes amidst James Gunn who wants to portray the younger days of Clark Kent. There will be a lot riding on the shoulder of David Corenswet as he looks to make his debut as Superman. Rachel Brosnahan will play Lois in the film. She has won an Emmy and a Golden Globe for her role in ‘The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’.
James Gunn’s New Superman
David Corenswet made his debut in the television series ‘House of Cards’ but he is much known for his role in the Netflix series ‘The Politician’. He is also known for his role as ‘Jack Castello’ in ‘Hollywood’.
Apart from television shows, he has also starred in movies such as ‘Moe & Jerryweather’ & ‘Affluenza’. His more recent works include ‘We Own This City’ and ‘Look Both Ways’. He is currently working on Warner Bros. ‘Twisters’.
Previously in an interview with EW in 2019, David Corenswet said that he would love to play the role of the caped superhero.
“Superman is an amazing character, a classic American character,” he told EW. “He’s been done right and he’s been done wrong. It’s time for another right one.”
“Not Henry Cavill, Not Watching”
Fans are upset with James Gunn as Henry Cavill had cemented his spot as Superman among the fans. After seeing the British Actor’s cameo in Black Addam, they were expecting to see him return to playing the role of ‘Kal-El’.

Fans were quick to make memes on the uncanny resemblance between David Corenswet and Henry Cavill. One fan even tweeted saying that the new Superman is basically a Henry Cavill lookalike but with a 10% fee of Cavills.

No mercy was shown upon David Corenswet as memes flooded Twitter after the actor was announced as the New Superman. The actor is not that popular of a face in Hollywood yet but hopefully, he leaves a mark with his new role.
‘Superman: Legacy’ will be released on July 11, 2025, and James Gunn and crew are expected to start filming for the movie, early next year.
