Euphoria season 3: Will Javon Walton reprise his role as Ashtray in the HBO series?

Don't miss

With season 3, “Euphoria” will be back on US broadcaster HBO and streaming service HBO Max. In an interview, Javon Walton hinted that he might return as Ashtray.

  • HBO is giving its hit series “Euphoria” a 3rd season.
  • The new episodes will probably be shown in the USA at the beginning of 2023 at the earliest.
  • Almost all the main actors are expected to return in the new episodes, with one exception – or not?

Drugs, sex, drugs again and sex again. In the successful HBO series “Euphoria,” things get pretty rough. The teens around Rue (Zendaya), Cassie (Sydney Sweeney) and co. indulge in hedonism extensively. And as the US channel HBO announced, their escalations in “Euphoria” will continue for a 3rd season.

Euphoria Season 3: Release Date

The start date of the new episodes is not yet known. Usually there is about a year between two seasons. Due to the Corona pandemic, there were delays, so that almost two and a half years passed between seasons 1 and 2.

If there are no delays this time, we can expect the new episodes to air in the U.S. in early 2023.

Euphoria Season 3: Plot

In the finale of season 2, things got heated. Custer, working with the police, wants to talk to Fezco about Mouse’s murder. Faye knows that Custer is working with the police and wants to prevent the conversation. As a result, Ashtray stabs Custer.

Ashtray barricades himself in the bathroom with guns when the police arrive. Fezco is gunned down. Ashtray kills a police officer and is subsequently killed himself.

Nate confronts his father Cal in a gay bar about the sex tapes and threatens to shoot him. Cal begs him not to do it and is subsequently arrested by the police.

Meanwhile, Cassie makes a scene for her sister Lexie in the school play. Maddy storms onto the stage, punches Cassie in the face and chases her out of the theater. Afterwards, the two meet again in the school restroom and talk it out.

Rue recalls her encounter with Elliot a few days ago in the school theater. Rue told Elliot she wasn’t using drugs anymore, and Elliot admitted he was still using. He then played her a song about their friendship on his guitar and asked Rue if they could still be friends. But Rue reminds him that they are bad for each other.

After Lexi’s piece, Jules goes to Rue and sits next to her. She tells her that she loves her and misses her. Rue kisses Jules on the head and leaves the school play.

“Jules was my first love. That’s how I’d like to remember her. But I don’t know if that’s really true. I think I was way too high,” Rue says at the end of the episode as she leaves the school smiling. Finally, she lets viewers know that she stayed sober for the rest of the school year, although she doesn’t know if that was a conscious decision or just easier than going back to drugs.

So, in season 3 we will probably learn how Fezco deals with his brother’s death and if Mouse’s murder will have consequences for him. We’ll also see how things go on between Cassie and Lexie and if everything is now settled between Cassie and Maddy.

Last but not least, we will probably find out if Rue continues to not use drugs, if she resumes her friendship with Elliot and if it might lead to a relapse again.

Euphoria Season 3: Trailer

There is currently no trailer for season 3. As soon as HBO releases one, you will find it here.

Euphoria Season 3: Cast

Also in season 3 most of the main actors should return. That means we’ll see Zendaya (“Spider Man: Homecoming”) as Rue, Maude Apatow (“Pitch Perfect 2”) as Lexi, Alexa Demie (“Mid90s”) as Maddy, Jacob Elordi (“Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar’s Revenge”) as Nate and Hunter Schafer as Jules and Barbie Ferreira as Kat.

Also likely to return are Eric Dane (“Grey’s Anatomy”) as Cal and Angus Cloud as Fezco. We will probably not see Javon Walton again as Ashtray. He was shot in the season 2 finale.

However, in an interview with industry publication Entertainment Weekly, Javon Walton suggested that you can still expect to see the 13-year-old dealer. Asked if he had “any hopes or wishes for Ashtray when he comes back in Season 3,” Walton replied, “I hope he realizes that drugs are not the right path for him.”

He just has to focus on himself, because he’s going to get another chance at life when he comes back. So he has to make the best of it. He’s a 13-year-old kid on the show, he’s got a lot to live for.

Actually, Ashtray was not supposed to survive the season 2 finale with a gunshot to the head. But apparently the actor, who will soon be seen in the Netflix series “The Umbrella Academy,” already has plans for his “Euphoria” comeback.
