Barbie Ferreira leaves “Euphoria” before the third season

Don't miss

Barbie Ferreira portrayed Kat Hernandez in the Euphoria HBO series for two seasons.

The admirers of Euphoria in the chat should be aware of some tragic news: Due to her departure from the HBO program, Barbie Ferreira won’t be playing Kat in season 3.

Barbie’s Kat didn’t appear much in Euphoria season 2 despite having a compelling plot in season 1 involving her side business as a cam lady. Kat didn’t have a strong plot, and viewers were aware of it. Her brief relationship with Austin Abrams’ Ethan and a few scenes with her best friend Maddie (Alexa Demie) were the only exceptions.

It appears that we won’t be getting any additional screen time for the character in season 3, despite requests and hopes from fans. On social media, the actress who plays Kat Hernandez announced her resignation yesterday, August 24.

Despite being a popular HBO program, Kat Hernandez will no longer be a part of the cast. Announcing her departure from the Sam Levinson and Zendaya-starring drama, star Barbie Ferreira posted on social media. It is a sad day for the viewers who have grown to love Kat and her tale throughout the course of the show.

Barbie announced the news on her Instagram Story, posting a drawing of Kat done by Euphoria co-star Hunter Schafer along with a lengthy note describing why she won’t be appearing in season 3:

Ferreira announced to the public in an Instagram story that she would not be playing Kat in Season 3 of the popular HBO series:

“after four years of getting to embody the most special and enigmatic character kat, I’m having to say a very teary eyed goodbye. i hope many of you could see yourself in her like i did and that she brought you joy to see her journey into the character she is today. i put all my care and love into her and i hope you guys could feel it. love you katherine hernandez”

Why she was “having” to say goodbye to the character was not disclosed by Barbie. Fans are now debating whether she was intentionally written out of the series or if she did it on her own.

Given Kat’s lack of a plot in the second season and Ferreira’s burgeoning star, her exit is also not unexpected. Many fans questioned what was happening with the character throughout the entire season when Kat’s plot in Season 2 was pushed to the side. A dramatic contrast to the previous season and the on-screen arc that Kat was given, there were several episodes where Kat didn’t seem to have a line at all (or if she did, it wasn’t one that was front and center of the action).

It is disappointing for fans who adored having Kat on the show that she won’t be returning for Season 3. In Season 1, a lot of us connected with her fanfiction writing and her character because she didn’t have the stereotypical appearance that is frequently shown on television. It was fantastic to see that type of portrayal in a character like Kat who was self-assured in her own manner.

Hopefully Ferreira will keep shining in projects like the HBO Max (Industry Season 3, True Detective Season 4) movie Unpregnant, in which she co-stars with Haley Lu Richardson, and her most recent performance as Nessie in Jordan Peele’s film Nope. It’s still disappointing that Kat won’t appear in more of Euphoria and that we won’t get to experience the remainder of Kat’s storyline.

We are eager to see what Ferreira decides to do in the future, and Season 3 of Euphoria will be missing Kat.
