In a recent interview with Variety on its new episode of Actors on Actors, Emily Blunt gave everyone a peak at what it was like working on the sets of ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ and working with Meryl Streep. She appeared with another megastar Brian Cox who is popularly known for Succession. She also gave some tidbits on Meryl Streep, who played Miranda Priestly in the movie.
“She’s amazing and was slightly terrifying in that film,” Emily Blunt said about the legendary actress (Via. People Magazine). “But it made her so miserable, playing Miranda,” she also added. Blunt finished off by acknowledging that the film did wonders for her career, propelling her to an “extraordinary overnight shift.” Appearing alongside Meryl Streep had perks of its own as it cemented her place on the Hollywood map. To this day, the popularity did not fade.

According to Emily Blunt, Meryl Streep was “miserable” while playing the role inspired by Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour. According to Blunt, this was also “one of the first times” the three times Oscar-winning actress had taken to method acting. According to Meryl Streep, this was also the last time she did method acting as well.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Meryl Streep said in a matter of factly manner that, “It was horrible!” In the same interview, she opened up, saying- “I was so depressed! I said, ‘Well, it’s the price you pay for being boss!’ That’s the last time I ever attempted a method thing!”
What did Brian Cox think of Meryl Streep?
According to the Variety interview, Brian Cox “loved” the film. He even showed off his fanboy side while speaking to Emily Blunt- “And to work with one of the greatest screen actresses of all time, I so envy you,” said the 77-year-old actor. He also lets the audience know that it is one of his ambitions to work with Streep before he “snuffs it.”
The actor also opened up about the time he met Meryl Streep and how he shocked her- “I met her once and I said, ‘I never liked you. And she went, ‘What?’ I said, ‘I never liked you because I was jealous.’ How can anybody be that good?”
Emily Blunt and Meryl Streep later worked together in ‘Into The Woods.’ The movie ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ recently turned 15 in 2021, and it is still equally popular. The movie is seen as a cultural icon and a masterpiece.
