Dominique Fishback believes strongly in manifesting one’s unique fortune. The 32-year-old actress, who has had a breakout year, winning Emmy nominations for her impulsive portrayal in the incendiary Prime Video series Swarm, has become the female lead in the upcoming Transformers film, Rise of the Beasts. In a discussion with PEOPLE, the East New York, Brooklyn native discusses her meteoric climb to stardom.
A journey from being neighborhood inspiration to Hollywood Success
Fishback recalls witnessing an youthful Shia LaBeouf rise to success in 2007’s Transformers as a teenager with acting goals, saying, “To see Shia go from TV to megastar, I was like, ‘Oh man, okay, I got to do something like that.'” That’s the beauty of divine timing and manifestation — because now I’m the Transformers’ female lead!” Fishback attributes her earliest performing success to the influence of her mother, a teacher by profession. She started to crack career objectives when she was 12 years old.
“I saw things around my neighborhood that I’ve comprehended wouldn’t inevitably would like,” she explains. “A lot of adults around me were dissatisfied with their jobs.”

For the dissertation she wrote at Pace University, Fishback created and performed Subverted, a one-woman play addressing Black identity. She went on to perform that play off-Broadway and is currently working on it into a TV special with the assistance of Jamie Foxx, who plays her counterpart in the 2020 Netflix feature Project Power.Her major breaking relocated in 2015, when she was cast in the HBO miniseries Show Me a Hero. Following that were films like 2018’s The Hate U Give and the Oscar-nominated Judas and the Black Messiah in 2021.
Fishback, who has since settled in Los Angeles, says she is “just trusting the process and my intuition” as she moves looking forward in her professional life. In her spare time, she creates video journals, which she has enjoyed doing for several years. “Journals remind me that I manifested the things I wanted,” she explains.
