The Netflix series “Cobra Kai” will soon start its sixth and final round. Here’s the most important info on the final season of the “Karate Kid” spin-off.
Good and bad news for fans of “Cobra Kai“: Netflix has extended the karate series by one season, which will also be the last. That’s what the series’ writers (Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg) told fans in January 2023. We summarize here what is known so far about season 6.
Cobra Kai Season 6: Release Date
Netflix first announced in January 2023 that “Cobra Kai” would return with another season. The season’s start is unknown so far (as of February 2023).
Filming for the final season is scheduled to start in spring 2023. The previous seasons were released eleven to twelve months after filming. Thus, we assume the final season of “Cobra Kai” will start in spring 2024 at the earliest.
Cobra Kai Season 6 Cast: Who is in season 6 (again)?
There is no official information about the cast of season 6 yet. However, we would be amazed if the main characters would not come back this time. Also, the actors’ social media reactions suggest they will return for season 6. For example, Ralph Macchio (Daniel LaRusso) and younger cast members Mary Mouser (Samantha), Tanner Buchanan (Robby) and Xolo Maridueña (Miguel) have shared the announcement and articles about it.
In addition, Macchio, William Zabka (Johnny Lawrence) and Martin Kove (John Kreese) posted a video, commenting, “It’s time to end the fight. The sixth and final season of COBRA KAI is coming soon to Netflix.”
Who probably won’t be there anymore is Thomas Ian Griffith. His character Terry Silver had to go to prison at the end of season 5 and will probably spend a long time there.
Also in prison was Kreese – but he faked his death and is now free again. Besides the actor sharing the above video on social media, writer Hayden Schlossberg hints that Kreese will be a villain in season 6. In an interview, he said, “We liked the idea of many characters thinking, ‘We did it. It’s over. Cobra Kai is history.’ Meanwhile, there’s still the ultimate Cobra Kai snake that’s pissed off now. We’ll see if life gets easy in Season 6 or if Kreese has something to say about that, too. Something tells me it will be the latter.”
Is “Karate Kid” star Hilary Swank also coming back?
Many actors and actresses who starred in the “Karate Kid” film series back in the day also appeared in “Cobra Kai.” However, one important character, Julie Pierce, played by Hilary Swank, has not yet returned. She was the main character in “Karate Kid 4 – The Next Generation.” Daniel LaRusso and Julie Pierce were not in the movie together, but Julie is still part of the so-called “Miyagiverse”.
In October 2022, Hilary Swank said in an interview that she had not yet been asked to star in “Cobra Kai.” That could have changed in the meantime – but it remains a well-kept secret: So far (as of February 2023), neither Swank nor the “Cobra Kai” makers have commented on any talks in this regard.
However, there is little chance that the actress will appear in “Cobra Kai.” She is heavily pregnant and will give birth to twins when filming for season 6 begins. Even if the birth should be before that, the actress wants to spend the next months with her newborns and not on the movie set.
Cobra Kai Season 6 Plot
Since the sixth season was confirmed only recently, there is no (official) information about the plot yet. However, the creators promise that this will be the best season. After all, the international competition “Sekai Takai” still has to take place – which will be the season’s highlight for many fans.
What else we can expect: Johnny will be presented in his role as a new father. His girlfriend Carmen is pregnant.
Furthermore, the authors have said in an interview that they do not want to repeat themselves but constantly do something new. So we can also look forward to surprises!
